Ask yourself, is your side hustle really hustling you? Too many people don't take into account what having a small business is really costing them. Here are some tips you need to take into account:

Is the Stock Market Going to Crash Again?

Yes.

Taken at face value, the answer to "Is the stock market going to crash again?" is always yes. Sooner or later, it has to.

Of course, most people aren't asking the question over a timeframe of forever. What they want to know is "Is the stock market going to crash again soon?" If they can predict when a slide is coming, they can take their money out of stocks and keep it on the sidelines until said crash occurs, after which they can swoop in and buy at bargain prices.

That sounds good in theory. In practice, it doesn't work. Markets crash, but accurately predicting when one will happen isn't possible. Given the rafts of pundits and analysts who regularly predict that trouble is coming, every downturn will have a lucky few individuals whose prognostications lined up closely with the real-world results. But anyone who pretends to be able to pull off this trick consistently either has a product to sell you or really likes to see their face in the media. (Or both.)

A SWOT analysis is a compilation of your company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The primary objective of a SWOT analysis is to help organizations develop a full awareness of all the factors involved in making a business decision.

Perform a SWOT analysis before you commit to any sort of company action, whether you are exploring new initiatives, revamping internal policies, considering opportunities to pivot or altering a plan midway through its ex*****on.

Use your SWOT analysis to discover recommendations and strategies, with a focus on leveraging strengths and opportunities to overcome weaknesses and threats.

Why is design important? Because there's a social responsibility.

Design is not only a practice that generates individual products and objects, but it's also a cultural system that acts over material and cognitive contexts, over the forms of thoughts, collective behaviors, the forms of the cities, environment and all other social realities.

It´s not possible to not consider design as an instrument to make the world better, more habitable, it never considers only the present, because projecting is a way of preparing the future. What we conceive today, for example, a theory, a new lamp, one more smartphone, a dress… is never what it's only today, but above all, is what it´s going to be from now on.

In the pragmatist design, it should be the way of projecting the world we live in, but thinking about the consequences and circumstances we may conceive, everything can influence our ways of acting and thinking.

The reasons that anyone decides to venture down the path of business ownership vary. Maybe it's the allure of setting our own hours. The chance to call fuzzy slippers and pajama pants “work clothes.” The opportunity to do business the way it should be done.

But for all of us, there’s one inarguable reason: the chance to finally put energy into building our dream instead of someone else’s.

With the decision to launch a business, however, come some pretty startling realities. Maybe some of these will be familiar. Others you might have just stumbled onto for the first time. They’re all, however, hefty reminders that this thing we do—owning and running a small business—is anything but easy.

It’s worth it—but definitely not easy.

For many Americans, the idea of retirement faded long ago. Dwindling savings, weak salary growth, falling investments and rising prices meant many Americans would keep working well into their 60s and 70s. The Great Recession made retirement even more remote. A new study from Barclay’s Wealth, titled “The Age Illusion: How the Wealthy are Redefining Their Retirement,” suggests that even millionaires and multimillionaires are planning a lifetime of work. And the reasons are surprising. Greg Davies, head of Behavioral Finance at Barclays Wealth, said that “for many their working life is an important part of who they are–it is something from which they derive self-worth and value, and not just a necessary evil to be endured until they can enjoy a leisurely retirement.”

First time buying a house? Awesome! Understand this >>

It’s common to put 20% down, but many lenders now permit much less, and first-time home buyer programs allow as little as 3% down. But putting down less than 20% may mean higher costs and paying for mortgage insurance, and even a small down payment can still be hefty. For example, a 5% down payment on a $200,000 home is $10,000. Play around with this down payment calculator to help you land on a goal amount. Some tips for saving for a down payment include setting aside tax refunds and work bonuses, setting up an automatic savings plan and using an app to track your progress.

There are lots of mortgage options out there, each with its own combination of pros and cons. If you’re struggling to come up with a down payment, check out these loans:

Conventional mortgages - They conform to standards set by the government-sponsored entities Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and require as little as 3% down.

FHA loans - Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration permit down payments as low as 3.5%.

VA loans – Loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs sometimes require no down payment at all.

Making a higher down payment will mean having a lower monthly mortgage payment. In addition to federal programs, many states offer assistance programs for first-time home buyers with perks such as down payment assistance, closing cost assistance, tax credits and discounted interest rates. Your county or municipality may also have first-time home buyer programs.

If you still aren’t convinced that marketing yourself online is worth your time, and would like to ignore it altogether, then consider this: none of us can ignore the world that’s changing around us. Technology is revolutionizing the world, and this includes real estate marketing. In fact, a survey showed that 92% of home buyers use the internet at some point in their search process. Start by creating content that’s jam packed with valuable information. But what is high value information? The answer depends on who is viewing the information. You have to know your audience and what they value. For example, if you attract visitors who searched for the keyword “how to buy a home in Miami, Florida,” and you thoroughly answer that question, then they’ll perceive your content as valuable because it’s relevant and provides specific answers to their question. Bonus points if you also exceed their expectations.

Once your research is complete and you’ve captured the main points from each activity, the next stage is to bring your team back together and start the process of synthesizing. Synthesis is a foggy process, your goal is to identify patterns and themes from across your research; it’s about storytelling and searching for consensus. It may feel overwhelming at the beginning as you wonder if you’ll ever be able to distill down the mass of evidence into something actionable and inspiring to design. Synthesis is about rationalizing all of your research into a clear story and actions for the client or design team. It’s a point to jump forward and look to the rest of the project, and a point to refer back to when you have questions later. Insights should be common across different research activities, if you have an insight drawn from only one or two interviews you should question how broadly applicable it is. The richest insights are supported by multiple research activities with data points, quotes, photos and observations all pointing to the same thing.

Keeping your home clean and organized doesn’t have to be as frightening as you may be making it. Once you create a practical cleaning routine, purchase a few storage essentials and outsource sporadically, your house will never be messy again.

When creating a digital product, much of the important work also takes place beneath the surface. All the user research, planning, interactions, objectives, functional requirements, and user experience strategy make up the great unseen chunk that gives your product its structure and makes it do what it needs to do. In other words, the work below the surface is what determines the success or failure of your digital product. Failing to do any part of that crucial work will impact your structure negatively. Like a real iceberg, the user experience part of your website, app, or software lies below the surface. It’s the biggest and most important part. It determines the success or failure of your entire digital product. Give it the time and attention it deserves.
