Maiden Lane has always had a long history of printers and jobbers who collectively printed jobs together as separate entities but made a final product for sale. When Harry Diamond founded Unique Printing in 1929, their business was driven by the financial and legal markets. One company sold the paper, another printed the blue and red lines, another printed on letterpress the column names for titles and yet another did the bindery which consisted of perforating, hole punching and trimming. The jobs would then come back to Unique to be packaged and sold to the end user. Seeing this ad from 1851 in The NY Times reminded me of what a legacy I am still a part of today. If you’re ever in need of some nostalgia, let us do some fine engraving or collateral material for you and your company.
