PREVENTING, MANAGING & TREATING BREATHING ISSUES
Most breathing problems are only mild, temporary and will go away. However, there are others that are either chronic or progressive. Whatever the case, prevention measures usually revolve around avoiding the triggers while treatment is all about going for the underlying cause for all respiratory issues.

For issues such as asthma and COPD that have no cure, then all you can really do is manage the condition by preventing triggers and using allergy medication such as antihistamines, decongestants and inhaled steroids.

So what can you do to prevent some respiratory issues naturally ?

Prevention
According to the World Health Organization, avoiding risk factors is the no 1 way to both prevent and control a myriad of respiratory issues. This includes simple tasks like wearing a dust mask when doing chores, avoiding furry pets, keeping away from pollen ridden areas, frequent changing of AC filters, among others. Other triggers include:

Mold spores
Dust
Irritants

5 Best Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential ( CPTG) Oils For Breathing
Along with your heart, the respiratory system is primarily responsible for an array of vital functions in your body. So as you would expect, any decrease in the level of respiration can have adverse effects on both your physical and mental health.
With Mother Nature’s help, essential oils (EO’s) do have very real benefits when used in the right way and the power of some of these oils is respected. EO’s are packed with decongestants, relaxants, antiseptics, sedative, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, they are medicinal plants in their most concentrated form.
You can easily get these oils into your respiratory system, this makes them an ideal remedy to any respiratory ailment. EO’s can support coughing, congestion, sneezing, sore throat, nasty colds, flu, stuffy noses, sinus infections, asthma, emphysema, fibrosis, bronchitis or any other respiratory issue.
Here is a list of the best essential oils for the job.

1. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Eucalyptus essential oil is an invaluable weapon in the fight against respiratory issues.
It can break up phlegm and clear mucous along the airways it stimulates the regeneration of lung tissue by increasing the flow of blood and nutrients to your breathing system.

The presence of menthol spreads a cooling effect on the airways that calms irritation and helps you breathe better.

4. Lemon Essential Oil
Here’s another respiratory remedy that has been in use for hundreds if not thousands of years. I’m sure we’ve all tried a home-made, lemon based remedy for cold or flu at one point in our lives.
That’s because in addition to unrivaled antiseptic properties, lemon contains antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial and detoxing capabilities that make it quite the effective cold buster. Scientific evidence has also shown that lemon EO can boost the immune system and also inhibit any bacterial action in the respiratory tract.

6 Essential Oil Recipes for Breathing

Recipe 1: Natural EO V***r Rub Blend
Ingredients:
22 drops Peppermint EO
20 drops Eucalyptus EO
Quarter cup grated beeswax
Quarter cup extra virgin olive oil
Half cup virgin coconut oil

Method:
Get a large mason jar and pour in all the virgin oils and beeswax. Heat a little water over a pan and place the mason jar in until the contents melt. Stir to mix the beeswax and virgin oils and once they’re well mixed, allow them to cool and add in the essential oils. Pour your mixture into containers and allow it to set. You now have a pretty effective, all natural v***r rub blend that will help soothe irritation and substantially improve your breathing.

Recipe 2: Homemade EO Cough Syrup
Ingredients:
2 drops Lemon EO
1 drop Peppermint EO
1 drop Lavender EO
1 drop Frankincense EO
Tablespoon of honey

Method:
Place the honey in a glass and add your essential oils one by one while stirring. Once everything is well mixed, down the hatch it goes. Conventional cough recipes have too much sugar and often come with side effects. This home-made syrup will not only sooth sore throats, but also boost the immune system and let you breathe easy.
As always, check with your doctor prior to ingesting any essential oils and if you do so, make sure you are buying high quality essential oils that can be ingested.

Recipe 3: Lung Healing EO Blend
Ingredients
1 drop Eucalyptus EO
1 drop Lemon EO
1 drop Peppermint EO
1 drop Birch EO
1 drop Ravintsara EO

Method
Clean and dry your hands properly before handling these oils. Open your palm and place one drop each of the above essential oils as indicated. Rub both hands to mix the oils together and then cup them over your nose. Careful not to touch our skin while inhaling the blend. Do this twice a day to alleviate symptoms of asthma, TB, pneumonia, colds, and other respiratory issues.

Recipe 4: Giant EO Inhaler Therapy
Ingredients:
7 drops Eucalyptus EO
5 drops Marjoram EO
5 drops Peppermint EO
3 drops Juniper Berry EO

Method:
Boil about 4 cups of water in a small pot and add the essential oil after turning off the burner and cover with a lid. Next, wait for a few minutes then remove the lid. Quickly lean over the pot and cover your head with a towel to ensure certain v***rs are not lost. Breathe in the inhalation blend every 10 to 15 seconds and remember to keep your eyes closed.

Recipe 5: Direct Ingestion Formula
Ingredients:
Drop of Lemon EO
Drop of Peppermint EO

Method:
To resolve a cough, stuffiness or congestion, simply place a drop of the above essential oils under the tongue. Alternatively, you could dilute the oils in water or tea for safer ingestion.

Thoughts

Ginger, lemon, garlic & honey have been in use as natural respiratory remedies, research identified gingers ability to reduce inflammation and inhibit airway contractions.
Lemon as an antioxidant.
Garlic has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties helps protect against oxidative stress within the lungs and throughout the body.
Honey may reduce inflammation in the airways of the lungs and helps in removing mucus that obstructs breathing.

Continuing to post useful - I hope - information during these extreme times.

Listed below are 12 best natural flu remedies to help keep your immune system healthy, balanced and strong. These are home remedies for the flu that include vitamins C and D, herbal supplements, essential oils, probiotics and eating healthily.

12 Flu Natural Remedies

Vitamin C (1,000 mg 3–4x daily)
Vitamin C helps with immune system function and boosts white blood cells. Research shows that vitamin C has shortened the duration of colds and can decrease the number of colds in physically active people.*
Take 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C daily to ward off a cold or the flu and up to 4,000 milligrams daily when you are experiencing symptoms. For the most dietary vitamin C, eat whole fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin D3 (2,000 IU daily)
Vitamin D is produced in the body by sunlight and regulates the expression of over 2,000 genes, including those of the immune system. Unfortunately, up to 90 percent of people are deficient in vitamin D. * Recent research shows that low vitamin D levels are linked to higher rates of cold, flu and respiratory infections.
Many physicians believe that current recommended daily amounts of vitamin D are far too low, and that 2,000 units rather than 200–400 units per day is a better choice. You can get home testing kits to test your vitamin D levels.

Echinacea (1,000 mg 2–3x daily)
This herb can help your body fight off infections, it is best to take it at the first sign of illness.
Researchers have found that echinacea effectively treats respiratory tract infections in the short and long-term,
Drink five to six cups of echinacea tea per day as soon as upper respiratory symptoms developed and reduce the number to one cup of tea over a 5-day period.

Echinacea acts as an anti-inflammatory, which can help reduce bronchial symptoms of cold and flu. It directly attacks yeast and other kinds of fungus.
Different preparations have different concentrations of echinacea. Some common preparations and dosages include:
Tablets containing 6.78 milligrams of echinacea extract, two tablets three times a day
900 milligrams of echinacea root tincture daily
Five to six cups of echinacea tea on the first day of symptoms, and then 1 cup a day thereafter

Elderberry (10 mL daily)
It is believed that this herb can deactivate the flu virus and naturally boost immunity. The flowers and berries of elderberry are said to boost the immune system, treat flu and relieve sinus pain.
Elderberry does seem to attack flu viruses and reduce bronchial inflammation. A preliminary study found that when 15 milliliters of elderberry syrup was taken four times daily for a five-day period, it relieved symptoms of influenza an average of four days earlier than those taking a placebo.

Oregano Oil ( 500mg 2x daily)
Oregano oil has a powerful antiviral effect, use oregano oil to fight viral infections and although there aren’t studies evaluating the efficacy of oregano on influenza specifically, there is research that indicates the powerful antiviral properties of the essential oil.

Zinc (50–100 mg daily)
Zinc supports immune function and has an antiviral effect. *It works best when taken at the first sign of illness. Zinc may lessen the symptoms of the cold virus, but excessive amounts aren’t good for you. Zinc pills and sprays do not seem to be as effective.
Take 50–100 milligrams of zinc daily to ward off or treat cold and flu symptoms.

Brewer’s Yeast
This popular supplement contains B vitamins, chromium, and protein. It is used for cold, flu and other respiratory tract infections. In fish, brewer’s yeast stimulates immunity by positively influence the microbiome, which may also improve digestive function.
Research conducted at the University of Michigan Medical Center found that a yeast supplement was able to reduce cold and flu symptom severity, and lead to significantly shorter duration of symptoms in patients.

Essential Oils for Flu
Rubbing peppermint and frankincense essential oil into the neck and bottoms of the feet can naturally support the immune system.
Use clove oil to protect the body against infection and speed recovery from the flu.
Research confirms that clove oil has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

Chiropractic Care for Flu Prevention
During the 1918 flu epidemic, flu patients that received chiropractic care survived much more readily than those that didn’t. This is because chiropractic care focuses on the health of your nervous system, which can help to boost your immunity.
A 2011 study showed some promise for chiropractic adjustments and their potential to help boost the immune system.

Probiotics
Restoring the beneficial bacteria in your gut can help boost your immune system considerably.
A lab study conducted in 2017 showed that a particular strain of probiotics, Bacillus bacteria, demonstrated anti-influenza activity, with complete inhibition of the influenza virus.
A 2017 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials evaluated the effects of probiotics and prebiotics on the immune response to the influenza vaccination. The results showed that participants who took probiotics and prebiotics showed significant improvements in the H1N1 and H3N2 strain protection rates. This suggests that taking probiotics may elevate your immunity.

Get Fresh Air
Indoor winter environments can be a source of concentrated toxins and germs. The dry air we inhale as we heat our homes during the winter makes airways more reactive and sensitive to viruses.
An added bonus to time spent outdoors in the winter is the extra bit of sunlight to boost the Vit D you receive.

Top Foods for Flu Recovery
Also, these are the best foods to consume while you recover from the flu.
Light, easy-to-digest foods: Include soups with bone broth, cooked vegetables or herbal teas to help with digestion.
Keep hydrated
Water: Adequate hydration is the key to flushing out the virus from your system.

Fluid helps your body to flush bacteria and viruses from your system.

Drink approximately half your body weight in ounces daily of pure water.

Green and black teas are potent immune system boosters and antioxidants.

THOUGHTS

Honey and cinnamon helps prevent mucus buildup and keeps you hydrated.

Make a ginger, cinnamon, lemon, tea and add raw or manuka honey.

Best foods for lung health
Enhance lung health and protect against a number of respiratory conditions.
This newsletter covers a few of the top ingredients to help support lung health
There are several factors that can affect lung health, including physical activity levels, genetics and environmental conditions.
Diet also plays a key role in respiratory health, and incorporating a few of the best foods for your lungs into your diet is a simple strategy that can decrease inflammation, improve pulmonary function and help heal your respiratory tract.
In addition to supplying a wealth of important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, these foods have also been researched for their ability to enhance lung health and protect against a number of respiratory conditions.

1. Apples
Not only can an apple a day keep the doctor away, but apples may also help promote better lung health as well. One study published in The European Respiratory Journal reported that apples could help slow declining lung function over a 10-year period, especially for former smokers.
The phytochemicals found in apples has also been shown to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation, which could potentially enhance pulmonary function.

2. Green Tea
Green tea is brimming with antioxidants and polyphenols that can be beneficial for lung function, including epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has been shown to help suppress lung cancer cell growth in vitro studies.
Green tea also contains theophylline, a powerful compound that acts as a bronchodilator to improve airway function and ease breathing difficulties.
What’s more, other research shows that regular consumption of green tea could be linked to a lower risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a group of progressive lung diseases that can cause shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.

3. Leafy Greens
Leafy greens like kale, spinach and arugula or rocket are jam-packed with essential nutrients that can support lung health, including antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
In fact, studies show that eating more leafy green vegetables may be linked to a lower risk of lung cancer, COPD and adult asthma.

4. Garlic
Garlic possesses powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help protect against oxidative stress within the lungs and throughout the body. What’s more, one study found that consuming raw garlic at least two times per week was associated with a lower risk of developing lung cancer over time.

5. Ginger
Ginger is a potent spice that has been extensively studied for its medicinal properties, especially when it comes to lung health. Ginger decreases lung damage and protects against inflammation.
Ginger extract also can prevent DNA and tissue damage in the lungs caused by alcohol.

6. Salmon
As one of the top lung cleansing foods, salmon is a great source of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. Some research suggests that these heart-healthy fats could help promote pulmonary blood flow and may be beneficial for certain respiratory conditions.
One study conducted by the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona even found that consuming higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids was associated with lower markers of inflammation in those with COPD.

7. Turmeric
Turmeric is one of the best foods for your lungs thanks to its content of curcumin, the chemical that provides turmeric with its vibrant color and impressive health benefits.
Preliminary research suggests that the anti- inflammatory properties of turmeric could aid in the treatment of several respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, acute respiratory distress syndrome, lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis.

8. Bananas
Rich in potassium, fiber and vitamin C, bananas are a powerhouse of nutrition and can be especially beneficial when it comes to lung health.
So why exactly is banana good for lungs? Studies show that the potassium found in bananas helps the lungs contract and expand, which can prevent breathing problems.
Other research has found that bananas could preserve lung function and may even be associated with a lower risk of wheezing caused by childhood asthma.

THOUGHTS
• Incorporating a few of these foods for helping to heal lungs in your diet can be incredibly beneficial for a number of respiratory conditions.
• In particular, apples, green tea, leafy greens, garlic, ginger, salmon, turmeric and bananas have been shown to help support lung health.
• Other nutrient-dense whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and healthy fats may also be beneficial.
• In addition to modifying your diet, limiting your intake of processed foods, getting regular physical activity, limiting exposure to pollution and not smoking can also help promote better lung health.
