Today, as I was reading a story about email marketing from my coach, I was reminded of my own story that really affected me.
(Trigger warning: This post goes into health problems)
Over two years ago, right around this time, I found out I was pregnant. I was so excited and never take it lightly that my husband and I didn't have to try as hard as some women do on their journey to getting pregnant.
I told my husband, who was away with work. At first, he was scared. But then he was ecstatic.
We both were so excited, thinking of all the ways our lives were going to change.
The thing is, my getting pregnant was also in the middle of a life-altering event. My husband's mother had been diagnosed with cancer.
I invited her to an ultrasound appointment, and she was so excited. She sent us gifts for the baby, including baby books. My husband and I knew that when our daughter was born, we wanted to move near his mom so she could be around her every week.
As time went on and my belly grew bigger... his mother grew weaker.
The picture-perfect life we imagined slowly disappeared until all we wanted was for his mom to see her granddaughter just once.
My husband eventually flew to Tennessee to spend time with his mom in the hospital, knowing she wasn't going to make it.
Unfortunately, she passed away less than 90 days before our daughter was born.
I never had a good relationship with my grandmother, and I wanted my daughter to have what I couldn't. But God had other plans.
What I learned after her passing is something I was reminded of again today:
Life IS a gift.
The question is... what are we choosing to do with it?
This past weekend, I went out of town with my husband, daughter, and dogs.
We spent time at the beach, eating fresh calamari and paella, and enjoying being together.
And all while I did that... my ad systems continued to work for me.
And I got booked calls on my calendar with people who want to work with me.
That's what the work I do is really about.
Not being strapped to your computer.
It's about having a business that lets you spend your life with the people who matter.
And ad systems just happen to be the way I do it.
