There are many types of leaders in the business world, but mainly you can break them down into three different categories
The three are autocratic, democratic, and Laissez-faire.
While they all have different attributes some are better than others in specific situations! Here we will focus on just one type, and that is the autocratic viewpoint
The autocratic viewpoint sounds a bit harsh at first but once you realize how to implement it, it will all make sense.
So what is it? The autocratic leadership style is based on sole decision making of the higher ranking members (Owners) and there is no input from any other source.
In other words, it’s the owners way or the highway! Even if input would be very useful, it is not taken by the decision makers. All of the power is in the hands of the high ranking employees, and the other members must agree or leave.
In a system where control is absolutely necessary such as high risk situations like construction and the military, but also in places where things have to be done a certain way, such as McDonald’s. Everything has to be the same across many different locations, but you get the point!!!
While this style of leadership has many positive aspects like having a well-structured system, clear company image and vision, and result driven motivation, there are some problems with this style.
Some problems that many businesses face when using this style of leadership can be high staff turnover rate, which means people are being hired and fired rapidly, demoralization of employees (Employees hate working for you), and finally the oppression of ideas from employees’, which hides innovation.
