This week Animikii CEO Jeff Ward, COO David Pereira, and Communication Strategist Catherine Ruddell will be in Vancouver attending the Indigenous Tech Conference!

Catch Jeff Tuesday morning with fellow panelists Bobbie Racette, Betsy Fore and Ryan St. Germaine ♾️ for a conversation exploring how technology can drive economic growth and community empowerment.

We’re excited to spend two full days with friends and colleagues from the Indigenous Tech Circle at this inaugural conference.

And we’re always grateful for the opportunity to share what we’ve learned building our business and growing our community over Animikii’s 22 years in Indigenous Tech.

Don’t be shy - say hi! 👋 👋 👋

Their service mattered. Their names matter. Their stories matter.

Nov 8th we mark the importance of Indigenous Veterans Day. Thousands of Indigenous people served Canada in times of war. Many came home to find their rights stripped, their lands taken, their service forgotten.

The Last Post Fund’s Indigenous Veterans Initiative works to right this wrong. They provide grave markers for Indigenous Veterans in unmarked graves and add traditional names to existing markers, to honour who they were, not just how they served.

This work requires community research and support. If you know an Indigenous Veteran who deserves recognition, reach out to the Last Post Fund.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we wear orange to honor the past and light the path forward. Our orange shirts remind us: Every Child Matters.

Every Truth uncovered and documented is like a seed—planting hope for Indigenous youth who'll one day braid together our collective future.

Our illustration was created by lead designer Tom Spetter. It features two young Indigenous children—dressed in the now familiar orange t-shirts—braiding sweetgrass together under a heart-shaped sun. Seen from the perspective of a grandparent, this powerful image symbolizes hope, healing, and the passing on of sacred traditions. We are celebrating the arrival of the Winter Solstice in the best way we know how: with the story of our social impact in 2023. This video report is a reflection on our year - and a look back on our journey of twenty years in business at Animikii.

At our annual retreat, we caught up with some of our team to talk to them about their impact, and the values they experience day-to-day working at Animikii. We asked Thunderbirds to reflect on the projects that resonated with them.

As we celebrate 20 years at Animikii we are also incredibly proud of the over $250,000 in monetary and pro bono donations we have put back into the community since we started keeping track in 2016 - this includes the 20 students we have provided scholarships for!

"We have this imperfect word: Reconciliation. But for me it’s about relations and reciprocity. It’s really that word, Indinawemaaganidog, meaning ‘All My Relations.’ This means we are all related to each other. I’m related to you. You’re related to me. We are all relations. My ancestors actions from generations before have affected me. Our actions affect people who have not yet arrived, people we will never meet or get to speak to - our actions are affecting them. When I think of Reconciliation, that’s how I connect with that word as imperfect as it may be.” - Jeff K. Ward, CEO

🧡 Today, we honour the survivors of the Indian Residential School system and support one another as we grieve those who never made it home. We encourage everyone to find time today and reflect on how their actions will impact the generations to come.

🌎 In today's rapidly evolving world, it's essential for organizations to rethink their approach to relationships with Indigenous Peoples and intersectional communities. Our latest article at Animikii.com explores various facets of this transformation—from unlearning 'normal' practices to creating policies that foster diversity, inclusion, and equity.

We discuss crucial questions such as: 'Whose land are you on? How do you foster non-heteronormative, inclusive language and policies? How can organizations be more flexible in their approach to time and family care?' And many more questions designed to invite organizations to consider the change they want to see in the world.

✍ Our article also dives deep into the importance of aligning organizational policies with Indigenous law and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

So, whether you're working in policy-making, HR, or organizational development, this article has valuable insights to offer for all.
