Another day down.
Another amazing hike for the books.

After this 12.5 miler at the Jenny Lake Loop in the Grand Tetons, it's safe to say I earned my dinner.

This trip has taught me the importance of investing in the important things, despite the "what ifs."
.. What if something goes wrong while I'm gone?.. What if my dog gets sick?.. Is this the right time to step away?

Want to hear a funny (and a little embarrassing) story?!

A few years ago, my husband and I took a trip to Austin. We had a fun time touring the downtown area and meeting new friends. So much, fun, in fact, that during one of our evening adventures, I took a tumble off of one of those rental electric scooters that you rent in downtown areas and hit the pavement - HARD - right on my chin! In case you didn't know, there's nothing like an emergency room visit in Austin, TX, at 11 o'clock at night. 10/10 do not recommend!

But...despite the freshly applied superglue to my chin, what I was most disappointed about was all the photos opportunities that I now couldn't take advantage of because of my wounded warrior face!

Then, after giving myself a little pep talk, I realized that I wasn't going to waste my vacation worrying about my funny-looking chin. I wanted picture memories, and I wasn't going to let this stand in the way.

So, in both your personal and professional pursuits, here's your daily reminder to:

1. BE BOLD.
2. Don't be too shy to root for yourself.
3. Invest tirelessly in your own success.
4. Step outside your comfort zone to take hold of what you want!

Sometimes you have to make hard decisions for the benefit of your business.

This week, I sold one of my sweet horses. This little filly was THE BEST, but I’ve started to notice over the last few months that she won’t make the barrel racing horse I thought she would. At our ranch, everything needs to have a job, and we didn’t have one for her. So, I knew it was time for her to go bless someone else and become their number one ride.

I realized this applies to many business decisions I’ve had to make in my life as well.

Think about it: just because you’ve invested in something or someone doesn’t mean that it’s a bad idea to step back and evaluate whether it still makes sense to KEEP investing in it. Because sometimes what your business needs MOST is a fresh set of eyes and some new perspective.

Here’s 3 TIPS to ensure your website is being utilized to its potential.

1. Have an easy way for your customer to get in touch.

List. Your. Phone. Number. Preferably near or at the top of the page. You’ll also want to install an easy intake form for users to submit for quote requests, consultations, or general inquiries. Make sure this form is easy to find by placing buttons in high-visibility areas to encourage click through. TIP: Keep an eye on your page load speed to ensure users don’t fall off before taking an action because it takes too long to submit their request.

2. List your location and contact info in a high-visibility area (if relevant).

Websites so often miss the mark here by making it much too difficult for prospective customers to see where they are located. And if you run a brick-and-mortar business, this is a big issue! Fatigue caused by your users not being able to find your location is often enough to divert them from pursuing you further. And just like that, you’ve lost out on potential business.

3. Link to your website on all your social media pages.

When users are considering making a purchase, they look for something called “social proof.” This means that they will explore your business’ digital presence to see if you look like a credible and trustworthy company. Businesses that post regularly to their social media pages have a much higher credibility score with their customers. They’re also more likely to clinch new business because of the social proof they have established with their customer base.

4. Leverage testimonials.
This is another great method of cultivating social proof. If you’ve ever been on the fence about making a purchase, reviewing testimonials can be a great way to find out more about others’ past experiences when working with a business. The more positive experiences you can capture and showcase to your audience, the more new business you will bring in!

Because they take into consideration the customer journey.

(What the heck is a customer journey, you may ask? Keep reading!)

The customer journey is a series of actions that your customers take before and after they make a purchase. Ever wonder why the best ads seem to know what you’re thinking and hone in on your buying intentions (maybe sometimes unnervingly so?)

No, they’re not actually reading your mind.

But… they ARE leveraging funnels strategies to anticipate your state of mind as it relates to your buying intentions, based on certain behaviors you display.

In advertising, we identify these behaviors by a customer’s position in the marketing funnel. We classify these points as cold, warm, or hot (ready to buy!)
Each stage of the customer journey needs its own advertising messaging, targeting, and unique appeal.

If you’re using an all-in-one approach without taking these distinct stages into consideration, you’re losing money.

Don’t underestimate the power of knowing your customers’ beliefs and motivators

If you've ever lost a great client without being able to figure out why, then you KNOW beliefs run central to effective relationships and open communication with current clients as well.

In my agency now, I do my best to regularly ask: How do you feel? How does that sound?

Here's the hard part:

There is no playbook about what's always right but if you don't know what your client is thinking, then you can't help them.

The stories in their mind matter.

Some clients will always tell you - it's their nature and personality to be open. But some clients will not tell you.

They will stay quiet when they are worried and keep things bottled inside. So, while you may feel like things are going great, they're having worries and hesitations and this can be the kiss of death for the project, as they're giving up in you, or themselves or their product!

Nothing is more important than making this open communication a part of regular talks which I now do with my clients on a regular basis.

While it can be scary to ask your clients how things are going, I've learned it can make or break relationships and contribute to long-term, healthy ones.

When it comes to business, BELIEFS make up the 3 core reasons potential customers won’t buy from you (said this way by Jesse Elder):

1) They don't believe in the product or service.

2) They don't believe in YOU.

3) They don't believe in themselves.

It's hard to articulate just how important these 3 areas are.

Therefore, we've got to meet our potential customers where they're at (addressing their concerns and thoughts about what's possible), be open about who we are (by regularly showing up and being open and honest), and regularly share the results of the work we do.
