One of my favorite perks of being self-employed: blocking my calendar for a morning walk. ☀️

We’re on week three of back-to-school life, and I definitely slacked the first week while I adjusted to mornings again. Plus, the Texas heat was already doing its thing by 8 a.m. 🫠

But this week? So beautiful.

After helping get the kiddo out the door, I’ve been starting my walk around 8:30, and it’s been less than 80 degrees (79 counts 😂).

And this morning I was thinking about how I never, ever regret going for a walk.

I’m not sure what my favorite part is: the movement, clearing my mind, hearing the birds chirping, or waving hello to complete strangers like we’re old friends when really we’re just people saying good morning as we walk past each other. 😂

Maybe it’s all of it.

10/10. Highly recommend the morning walk. 💯

I’ve built so much of my business on the belief that “if she can do it, maybe I can too.” ❤️

And one of those women for me has always been my friend Noemi.

I met Noemi years ago in a community of freelance moms, when I was still figuring out what building a business could look like. She was already way ahead of the game, building something successful while creating the kind of freedom so many of us were working toward.

She was Mexican like me. She was a mom like me. And I could see a little bit of myself in her story. I watched her and thought, maybe I can do this too.

And when she reached out to me to rebrand MamáCounts, it was such a full-circle moment. 🥹

But what I admire most about Noemi has nothing to do with how successful she is. She’s an incredible mom, an amazing friend, and one of the most generous people I know when it comes to sharing what she’s learned along the way.

She genuinely wants other women to win.

And yes, I trust her so much that she’s also my bookkeeper AND does my taxes!

So if you’ve ever thought about learning bookkeeping, preparing taxes, and building a business that gives you more flexibility, go follow Noemi | Bookkeeping Coach & Tax Professional and learn from someone who has actually built it.

Right now, she’s enrolling for her MamáCounts Tax Academy, with options depending on your goals and budget. Enrollment closes September 13.

Go look her up. You might just have your own “if she can do it, maybe I can too” moment too!

Facebook reminded me of this post from 10 years ago. 🥹

At the time, I was still working in corporate, and I remember telling a friend how frustrated I felt about my career growth.

All I really wanted to do was design.

She asked me a question that has stuck with me ever since: “What kind of things do you actually like to design?”

And I knew the answer.

I loved doing work for good, projects for causes and organizations I believed in.

I loved creating identities for events, campaigns, and special initiatives. I loved taking something that needed to communicate an idea and giving it its own look, personality, and visual world.

Ten years later, I get to do so much of exactly that. 💗

Today, I’m presenting a brand identity for a pro bono project with an organization I deeply believe in.

And one of my biggest retainer clients is a nonprofit, which means work for good isn’t something I occasionally squeeze into my career anymore. It’s part of the career I built.

There’s something really special about realizing that the things I wanted back then eventually found their way into my life.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned in this journey is to get clear about what you want.

You don’t have to know exactly how you’re going to get there. But once you can name what you want, you start recognizing the opportunities, people, and paths that can lead you there.

Or maybe the universe just has a funny way of showing you the way. ✨

Ten years later, this kind of work still makes my designer heart full. 🥰

Dream More. Learn More. Care More. Be More. 🦋

Thank you for showing us that you can build something extraordinary without losing your kindness, generosity, humor, or yourself along the way.

Thank you for the lessons, Dolly. 💗

I played hooky on Tuesday. 😌

I was already out for a networking event and decided to take the rest of the morning off and wander around IKEA.

A few days ago, Jennifer Mercier asked on LinkedIn: mountains or water? I commented that I’m an indoor lady, just like my cats. 😂 If I’m going to get lost somewhere, I’d rather it be somewhere between the rugs and the lighting section.

Give me somewhere inspiring where I can get my steps in AND enjoy AC during a 100-degree San Antonio summer, and that sounds like a dreamy destination to me.

I rarely take myself on little weekday dates like this. I’m usually either in full work mode or mom mode, but it felt so good to disconnect for a few hours.

My son does NOT understand my love of wandering around IKEA. He always says, “But you never buy anything!” And I remind him: it’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey. 🛒

For the record, I did leave with some candles on sale, a lint brush, and an emotional support orangutan. 🦧

But there was something else that made this little outing feel special.

A couple of years ago, I felt like I couldn’t leave the house without my computer. Every design project felt like an emergency, and I always needed to be ready just in case.

On Tuesday, I realized how light it felt to know my clients were taken care of. That if something came up, I could reply from my phone, “I’ll take care of it this afternoon,” and keep wandering.

Maybe success is also this.

Feeling like you can step away from your business for a few hours and trust that everything will be okay.

Here’s to more spontaneous midweek dates, wandering without an agenda, and emotional support plushies. 💗

I’m so excited to share the new brand identity and website we created for Communication through Connection LLC.

Founded by Alexandra Carrison, Communication through Connection partners with schools across New England to connect students with exceptional speech, occupational, and physical therapy services. At the heart of Alexandra’s work is a simple belief: connection comes first.

The challenge with this rebrand was finding the right balance. The brand needed to feel friendly, warm, and approachable without feeling too child-like. After all, while the work ultimately supports children, Alexandra’s clients are schools and educational professionals.

We created a visual identity that strikes that balance through playful typography, bold color, and simple graphic elements inspired by communication and connection. It feels joyful and full of personality while still giving Alexandra a brand that feels established, professional, and trustworthy.

We also created a one-page website that brings the new identity to life while clearly communicating their services, expertise, and commitment to supporting schools and the students they serve.

Thank you, Alexandra, for trusting us with this next chapter of Communication through Connection. 💗 We loved creating a brand that reflects the warmth behind your work while positioning the business for where it’s headed next.

I didn’t know who Dolly Parton was until one summer when I was interning in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I overheard some of the other interns talking about going to Dollywood, and I basically invited myself. 😅 I was so curious about who Dolly was and why she had an entire theme park.

My friend Mari Smith told me about her incredible music career, but most importantly, about her philanthropy, her love for East Tennessee, and all the jobs and opportunities she created around her hometown.

Turns out, I did like country music. I just hadn’t listened to Dolly yet. 💗

Years later, we were lucky to be one of the millions of families who received free books through her Imagination Library.

What a beautiful legacy to leave behind.

May her kindness live on in every heart she touched, including mine. 🦋
