Baby Samuel finally made his debut on his big sister’s birthday! Sam’s name means “God hears me” and Hazel’s name (Hazael in Hebrew) means “God sees me” so it feels meant to be. ☺️ It only took 1 short day for Hazel to think it’s the coolest thing!

We are obsessed with this snorting little cuddle bug who came into the world with his hand stretched across his face (called a nuchal hand). Not the most comfortable way for a mama who chose a natural birth, but I had such a supportive team and we made it through in an amazingly short amount of time!

Forever grateful to have this opportunity to bring such sweet spirits to this world and into such a loving home. It never will cease to amaze me the beauty of being a mother. ✨🤍

We blessed Juniper Fay this weekend and we are so grateful for this sweet little spirit who has already blessed our lives an overabundant amount. She is as perfect as can be and I cannot tell you how much she feels just right for our family. God is so good! Happy Sunday ✨

I started knitting this blessing dress before we even knew we were having a girl and it is something I will treasure forever - the dress itself as an heirloom, but also I will cherish the hours and hours of time I spent sitting and knitting and thinking about this sweet baby (and previous babies) I have had the opportunity to carry into this world and the privilege to steward their sweet souls in companionship with Ryan. Just like knitting this dress, faithful parenthood happens one stitch at a time. It sure is tiring and repetitive and tedious, but it’s always always worth it. Tons of mistakes are made along the way, but you can put in the work to fix those mistakes and continue on with persistent diligence. And in the end, all your hard work is stitched together into a beautiful masterpiece with God’s fingerprints covered throughout — because there is no way to take part in something as beautiful and joyful as raising a child without having His divine love and revelatory guidance helping you along the way. ✨

If God’s love represents the tree of life (the one told in Lehi’s dream), and God’s greatest act of love is Him laying down his life for us, is not the cross itself a sort of tree of life for us?

I loved this idea so much that I just had to create it visually and then I volunteered to speak in front a dozen teenagers (🤯).

For those who watched my stories a few weeks back when I asked for your personal message from Christ, thank you for your help! We had a ton of phrase options at the youth fireside, and it seems like nobody totally hated the idea 😅. If you want to make one yourself, I put up my fireside sermon on my website and the downloads to make your own cross/tree of life. Happy Sunday ✨

The temple carving is done and all that’s left is the letters at the bottom! 🥳 ✨

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be bringing my linocut ink and supplies to our family Super Bowl party. Anyone else taking a craft? 😂😅

The day I joined .creativity, it is no coincidence the prompt is about light — my absolute favorite thing to study in the scriptures. 🤯✨

This morning, before I even heard that this online community was open for enrollment, I look outside and see a patch of wildflowers in my backyard. The morning light dances over the yellow and red hues and even though I was going off 5 hours of sleep, this sight bouyed me up to have a good day.

This photo literally has no filter, the sun (and apparently this cute little bee) are drinking in that golden sunshine.

Who knew a couple of blooming weeds can bring so much peace?

I am a collector of lists. I collect exciting ideas, inspiring thoughts, uplifting podcast episodes, amazing tips and hacks, book recommendations, you name it. From Evernote, Instagram saved collections, sticky notes, to my iPhone notepad, I use it all to save my favorite things. And I want to share them with YOU!

I love texting my friends these ideas and keep copying and pasting the same thing to different groups of friends. So I decided it’s time to really make this a thing and make it a newsletter you receive every other Friday from a dear friend who has spent way too many hours scouring the internet and can’t contain her excitement about something she’s found. Because that’s exactly what my “Friday Favorites” email will be! (Might try to do weekly but don’t want to overwhelm myself as a momma of two. And I made this email at 2 AM this morning so hopefully I can come up with a more clever name later 😅).

These emails will include anything I would text a friend from a product I’m eyeing or loving, to a simple challenge to start something today that helps you become a better person, parent, or Christian. And my goal is to have no more than two links be purchase-able because this isn’t about gathering things, this is about gathering ideas.

Sign up in the link on my profile or go to mckenziesuemakes.com/friday-favorites and I’ll be sending the first one out tonight! 💛💛

What microgreens we don’t eat, we dehydrate and grind into a powder for our smoothies.

I added some to our homemade orange juice gummy bears the other day and it actually tastes pretty good! Hazel loved them until she saw her friend gag on one and decided now they’re “ucky!” 😂 Going to try adding citric acid to the next batch to see if adding a bit of sourness will help hide the superfood green “sprinkles” 😉.
Also still trying to get the gelatin ratio right. It’s been fun experimenting!

I’m obviously enjoying the fruits of Ryan’s hard labor. We are grateful he keeps our greens alive and growing so well.

I get goosebumps each time I’ve watched “The Christ Child” but this year, I couldn’t help relating to Mary so much at this moment. Looking down at my own precious newborn boy and feeling the magnitude of my calling as a mother. This gift I’ve been given is tremendous and scary and purposeful and wonderful. Even more so, the gift of the birth of the Savior and His sacrifice is even more so precious and purposeful and important. Hazel was sitting on my lap reading books while I watched and as soon as Jesus was born, she froze and was mesmerized by the scene. It was almost like she knew the deep importance of that moment (she then pointed to baby James as baby Jesus was crying, worrying about James like the great big sister that she is).

If you haven’t seen this short nativity movie, definitely put it on your list this year (just Google The Christ Child). I also watched the behind the scenes video and I love how much thought and effort they put into making it as historically correct as possible. Feeling full of the CHRISTmas Spirit today!

I stayed up til 1 writing a blog post of my favorite Christ-centered traditions. As a mom of a newborn you know my sleep time is precious but I was just too excited to share everything I’ve gathered over the years with you guys! Obviously with my oldest being a 1-year-old, I haven’t tried the majority of them myself but I sure have researched each and every one of them in depth!

Shown here is a printable I made that can be hung in your home and has a scripture to read each day of Christmas that coincides with a letter of the alphabet! (Idea and content came from a 2011 Friend, I just made it prettier 😉). Tell me which is your favorite tradition and any I may have missed!
*Also note that due to said newborn and toddler, I haven’t really proofread it so please excuse any run-on sentences or lack of flow. I wanted to get this published as soon as possible so you can implement one in your family this Christmas season!

To say I’m grateful for is the biggest understatement. He is my best friend and has brought me so much happiness in the 10 years that I’ve known him. I love how much he tries to make me laugh, the way he lights up a room with his humor and smile, his constant search to better himself and learn new things, and the fact that he’s cooked the majority of our meals the past year without complaint ❤️. He is a playful and loving dad and I am forever grateful to have him by my side for eternity.

I am very grateful for books. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge reader but the more I thought about it, the more I realized so many books have shaped and influenced my life. From the bookcase of Christian novels that I grew up reading as a teenager to the self-help books I love to read today, I’ve learned so many things from each one.

The novel “Master” led me down the path to sign up for my study abroad to Jerusalem, which played a huge part in building my strong testimony in Christ.

The book “One Thousand Gifts” inspired me to make my own list of moments that stop me in my tracks and show a glimpse of God’s love. This act has helped m notice those golden fleeting moments and stop to recognize them as God-given gifts. (I linked my list in my bio if you’re curious to learn more about this book and see my humble attempt of writing in poetry 🙈).

Currently reading “How to Talk so Little Kids will Listen” and it has changed my perspective on how I can better understand my child and be a more patient and loving parent.

I also have found that reading the biographies of the prophets of my church has taught me that becoming a true disciple of God is as simple as taking it a day at a time and listening to the small voice of the Spirit.

And the book that has made the biggest impact in my life is the Book of Mormon (another testament of the Bible). Reading scripture always makes my day easier and lighter, and the truths inside have shaped who I am today: a woman who believes and knows that God is our Father, He sent His Son to offer an Atonement for me (and each and every one of us), and we will get to live with Them and our families for eternity.

When thinking of the things I am grateful for, it’s hard not to immediately think of these two miracles.

Hazel has this intense love for life that inspires me to not take things so seriously. James is our light in a dark year and he brings us so much joy (especially big sister Hazel — just look at all these photos that she absolutely loved taking with him 😍). Being their mom, although is exhausting, is the greatest calling I have been given. I am grateful for the 2.5 years it took for us to become parents - that trial brought and I closer as a couple, it gave me empathy for others who struggle with infertility and loss, and I learned that God’s timing is always perfect.

Spending a week in gratitude is exactly what my heart needs this week. Negativity so easily creeps in, so focusing on and expressing our blessings can shift that perspective into a positive light. I hope you’ll join me, we all need a little gratitude to end this year!
