1 year later, there is still so much confusion for e-commerce business owners trying to understand the impact of iOS14.5 on their paid ads performance.

Over the past year, we have spent millions for our clients around the world and juggled all the fun ups and downs of this new update.

Here are my thoughts to try and demystify this for founders, as well as a simple framework to form the foundation for your ad strategies going forward.

1. Did someone crack the code to overcome the iOS reporting issue? Not from what we’re seeing yet in the marketplace 🚫
2. Your ultimate litmus test should be your Bank Account Balance rather 3rd party platform reports. Don’t be the brand that spent $1.5m in 3 months only to seek help when the cash flow is too tight 👀
3. MER is the new standard to measure baseline success with on-platform ROAS as a secondary KPI to mitigate skewing heavily towards any particularly channel
4. The Ultimate Realisation: Reporting changed overnight but consumer buying behaviour did not change 🛍️

Last month, Rich Burns (ROAS Media Founder) had a good discussion with Chronos Agency, Klaviyo, Gorgias on the key marketing strategies that eCommerce owners should focus on to thrive in 2022.

After interacting with so many businesses (big and small) throughout the years, we highly recommend brands to take a macro approach in analyzing their data and understand how to use it to their advantage, starting with the two most overlooked metrics — Know your key website metrics and customer lifetime value.

With the poll that Rich did on Linkedin to understand the general sentiments on how often one may think top eComm brands optimize their websites and landing pages! 44% of responders voted for weekly optimization. However, the truth is many brands (regardless of their size) often under-invest in their website post-launch phase.

For example, if Brand A sells the same products as Brand B and all of their paid ad metrics are the same for both brands except for their website conversion rates: if Brand A converts at a 3% conversion rate and Brand B converts at a 1.5% conversion rate, then, in this case, Brand A is making twice as many sales as Brand B for the same amount of spend. Yes, this is an oversimplification but it’s something that is commonly overlooked and under-invested in when it comes to yearly or quarterly game plans, even for the brands spending 100’s thousands a year or millions per year on ad spend.

Competition for attention is increasing year on year, and in this audio clip, Rich talks about where brands should be focusing more in 2022 to scale up further and be more competitive.

We were recently featured amongst other agencies in Business Insider.

This article doesn't necessarily reflect the full picture of what we're seeing in our portfolio but we're grateful for the mention.

There are still a lot of opportunities out there, particularly for eCom brands that are able to get stock and send orders out as CPMs have dropped a lot on Facebook/Instagram. It is something however that needs to be closely monitored on a day to day basis as and when things change.
