Rafstar Designs has been the design name used by Kathryn White for all her creative output for the past ten years. It was not until 2007 that Kathryn (or ‘Raf’ to her friends) decided to put the wheels in motion and officially form a business. A self taught designer with a penchant for graphic design, photography and now web design, Kathryn has found that her involvement in Melbourne’s amateur the
atre scene has afforded a whole range of creative opportunities. While she has performed in, directed and choreographed a variety of productions, Kathryn soon discovered skills in designing production posters, programs, marketing material and theatre company websites. She has worked predominantly for Mountain District Musical Society (MDMS), designing their website, creating programs, and designing posters and show art. Kathryn has also worked as a costume designer for MDMS and Players Theatre Company, and has been nominated for several awards in both costume and set design as well as performance. While some of her photography is connected to her theatre work, she loves taking shots of architecture and nature. In 2008, Kathryn was asked to exhibit her photo, ‘The Orb’, for Amelie Camille’s exhibition, ‘Loft’. The photo won the prize for best new talent. Kathryn has a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and has worked as an English teacher for many years. In 2009, she completed a Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) and has taken up residence as a Teacher Librarian and eLearning guru at a prestigious independent girls’ school in Melbourne.
