Trending now: The Candid-Photo Aesthetic 🤳✨⤵️

If your content is underperforming, it could be because it feels overly polished.

Right now audiences are drawn to content that feels authentic, relatable, and native to the platform. Instead of perfectly staged photoshoots, many of the most successful brands are leaning into a more casual, camera-roll-inspired aesthetic.

Brands like Rhode have built massive engagement by making their content feel less like advertising and more like something a friend would post. Think natural lighting, candid moments, imperfect framing, and everyday environments that make audiences stop scrolling because the content feels real.

The goal isn’t to look unprofessional; it’s to remove the barriers that make people instantly recognize something as an ad 💡

In social media marketing we’re seeing a shift toward content that prioritizes connection over perfection. The brands winning on social understand that authenticity isn’t just a trend - it’s a strategy.

Back where it all started…this time as a founder 🧡

My alma mater, Rochester Institute of Technology, has a very special place in my heart. It was here that I earned both my degrees (BFA in Visual Media and MS in Marketing), studied abroad, befriended incredible humans, and wrote my infamous Tumblr blog (iykyk) - all of which helped build the foundation for the career and business I have today.

I recently attended the annual Imagine RIT Festival to get a firsthand look at the ingenuity and innovation coming from today’s students. Two projects particularly caught my eye, as they were applicable to not only my current clients but so many businesses in WNY and beyond:

The first was Pyrus Paper by Industrial Design student Diya Das. Her project aimed to solve the problem of finding a sustainable alternative to packaging that didn’t cause further devastation to the world’s forests. Diya explored the use of an invasive species of wetland grass mixed with discarded paper waste, and after some experimentation ended up with a product that was comparable to other mass-produced paperboard materials.

The second project was for fictional company Lars Pickling Co by graphic design student Ellinor Edstrom. Her project aimed to solve the problem of making an unaesthetic food product more appealing using various design and advertising trends. Instead of hiding the item inside of its packaging, Ellinor used high-contrast photography, a striking color palette, and bold typography to highlight the product and reframe consumers’ thinking to generate more appeal and thus, increase demand.

Both projects were great examples of RIT students’ abilities to blend creativity, strategy, and emerging technology in ways that feel increasingly relevant to today’s business landscape. As a founder, it was valuable to see students developing such clever solutions to real-world challenges. And as an alum, it was a proud reminder of the creativity and innovation that have long defined the RIT experience and were so instrumental in shaping mine.

Congrats to RIT on another successful event and to all the talented students who presented this year! Can’t wait to see what you do next 🌎

A love letter to my favorite cafes to work remotely 💘

Over the past few years I’ve really leaned into the working-out-a-cafe life, and each of these spots has the perfect combination of great vibes, great food, great people, and great WiFi 🛜

Shout out to our local cafes giving us comfy places to work outside of traditional spaces — we 🫶 you!

Here’s the exact 360° marketing plan I use for my oldest client, Whiskey Riot 🥃⤵️

Whiskey Riot () is a national whiskey-tasting festival that brings over 150 pours from brands around the world to cities across America for an epic night of whiskey tasting.

I started working with Whiskey Riot in 2017 when the event was first created here in Buffalo, NY. Originally called “Buffalo Whiskey Fest”, it quickly became a sell-out event and changed its name to “Whiskey Riot” in 2018 when founder Bobby expanded its efforts into nearby cities like Rochester, Albany, and Syracuse.

In 2022 Whiskey Riot grew outside of New York State with its first event in Dallas, TX. In the years that followed, the event continued to grow and now takes place annually in 9 cities across the USA.

In order to support the event’s growth, I’ve had to evolve its marketing from small-scale efforts into larger strategies that have helped the festival continue to grow, reach new audiences, and sell out events.

From organic content and B2C engagement to paid ads and influencer campaigns, swipe to see every marketing tactic I use to help Whiskey Riot continue to expand nationwide ✨
