A love letter to my favorite cafes to work remotely 💘

Over the past few years I’ve really leaned into the working-out-a-cafe life, and each of these spots has the perfect combination of great vibes, great food, great people, and great WiFi 🛜

Shout out to our local cafes giving us comfy places to work outside of traditional spaces — we 🫶 you!

Here’s the exact 360° marketing plan I use for my oldest client, Whiskey Riot 🥃⤵️

Whiskey Riot () is a national whiskey-tasting festival that brings over 150 pours from brands around the world to cities across America for an epic night of whiskey tasting.

I started working with Whiskey Riot in 2017 when the event was first created here in Buffalo, NY. Originally called “Buffalo Whiskey Fest”, it quickly became a sell-out event and changed its name to “Whiskey Riot” in 2018 when founder Bobby expanded its efforts into nearby cities like Rochester, Albany, and Syracuse.

In 2022 Whiskey Riot grew outside of New York State with its first event in Dallas, TX. In the years that followed, the event continued to grow and now takes place annually in 9 cities across the USA.

In order to support the event’s growth, I’ve had to evolve its marketing from small-scale efforts into larger strategies that have helped the festival continue to grow, reach new audiences, and sell out events.

From organic content and B2C engagement to paid ads and influencer campaigns, swipe to see every marketing tactic I use to help Whiskey Riot continue to expand nationwide ✨

🦬 How to flip the algorithm: Bills edition ⤵️

Local businesses all over WNY have been posting creative content to leverage Bills hype, increase their engagement, and flip the IG algorithm in their favor.

If you’ve been on social media the past few weeks you’ve probably seen that the Buffalo Bills are all any one is talking about - is your business doing the same?

🗣 I’ve said it once and I’m gonna keep saying it: This is the perfect time to have your business capitalize on the excitement and energy the entire 716 is feeling *right now*!

💡 Not only is posting Bills related content super relevant, it’s a great way to strengthen B2C relationships, increase your likes/comments/shares (thus increasing your reach and impressions), and trigger the Instagram algorithm to show your content to more people both now and in the future 🙌🏼

✨ No matter what your business is there’s lots of ways to show your Bills love on the ‘Gram!

Happy Monday! This weekend we took a drive to Lewiston and checked out a few new-to-me local businesses (mostly wineries🍷) and it was the perfect fall day 🍂🧡

Rupert showed our foster dog, Mittens, exactly how to get pets and treats from everyone we met, we had a BBQ dinner at Brickyard that hit the spot, and at the end of the day the dogs had a great time running all over the Lewiston Dog Park.

Here’s where we went:

• Rhinehart Farms
• Arrowhead Spring Vineyards
• Freedom Run Winery
• Anthony Manor Farm
• Lewiston Dog Park
• Brickyard Brewing Company

I love taking drives in the fall and exploring different corners — where should we go next?

👋🏼 It’s been a while since I introduced myself on here, so hello!

As I approach the anniversary of when The Buffalo Creative transitioned from an idea scribbled on paper into my full-time entrepreneurial dream, I wanted to share the story of how I got here.

It’s been a long winding road with lots of ups and downs, but I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to do what I’ve always been passionate about, in the city I love, on my own terms ✨

So, thank you for being here, for always being here, and for continuing to be here! Your support means everything 💖

🐶⚠️ WARNING: Adorable adoptable dogs ahead! ⚠️🐶

This post is dedicated to one of my favorite local organizations, the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter 💙🧡

Fun fact 1️⃣: I love the ! Not only have I adopted all of my many (many 😅) pets from CBAS, but I’ve also been a volunteer for over 5 years. In that time I’ve fostered 50+ animals, walked 100+ dogs, offered consultations for social media, and given out roughly 1,000,000 treats.

Fun fact 2️⃣: Did you know the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter is largely run by volunteers? In addition to enrichment, training, exercise, off-site management, and other logistical components, the CBAS volunteers have a “social media marketing team” that helps promote our city’s homeless animals!

A few things they excel at:

• consistently posting to feed & stories every single day
• hopping on viral trends & using viral sounds
• photographing animals with good lighting, cute poses, and even fun props (this is really hard to do — trust me 😂)
• utilizing social media tools like pins, links, and highlight reels to emphasize important messaging and create a seamless user experience

🐶 Swipe to check out 10 of CBAS’s current adoptable dogs; and enjoy the family photo of me, Ryan, and our latest foster fail Rupert on slide 11!

* The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, like most animal shelters, is in the midst of an overcrowding crisis. Due to no fault of their own, thousands of animals are finding themselves in shelters after being failed by humans.

* The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter cannot turn away any animal in need. This means that even when all of the kennels, pop-up crates, and foster homes are full, they still must find room for any sick, injured, or abandoned animal that finds itself without a home.

* The current situation is beyond anything the Shelter has experienced before. Any and all help you can do is greatly appreciated!

* Here’s some ways you can make a difference:

🐾 Adopt a shelter pet
🏠 Foster a pet from the shelter or one of its rescue partners

💡 Quick tip: The perfect flat lay is all about one thing…

✨ Staging ✨

Since the dawn of Instagram, flat lays have gone hand-in-hand with the entire vibe of the platform — aka beautiful overhead vignettes.

Flat lays, or images that have their subject/props laid out and are shot from above, are a super easy way to “stop the scroll” and increase engagement thanks to their highly aesthetic nature.

The perfect flat lay is strategically and slightly imperfectly staged with ample bright, natural light.

A few of my favorite props to include in flat lays:

• sunglasses
• magazines, maps, brochures, menus, books
• purse, bag, or wallet
• pretty drink(s)
• candles, flowers, or any other colorful adornments
• someone’s hand holding a utensil, glass, magazine, etc
• a cute pet 🐶🐱
• bonus points: find a surface with an interesting texture or pattern!

A few things to leave out of flat lays:

• napkins
• trash
• anything crumpled or wrinkled
• any item that “cheapens” the shot and affects the vibe
• staging that’s *too* perfectly done — flat lays are all about looking “natural”

Final tip: Make sure to keep your shadow out of the frame, and don’t be embarrassed to move around or stand up if you need to 🤳🏼

💡 Content tip: Simplify your backgrounds! Crafted with intention, the most unassuming everyday surroundings can create visual interest and elevate your subject matter in all the right ways.

Local florist is an expert at creating stunning photos with simple, aesthetic backgrounds 💐

A few of my favorites he’s done recently:

• the side of his garage-turned-studio
• the ground (feat. his carefully angled shoes)
• a loosely arranged tabletop
• a bright red wall
• a muted wall accentuated with an old end table

The key to making good content? 🎀 Brand Identity 🎀 ⤵️

On social media (and honestly all aspects of marketing), brand identity is *everything*.

A brand identity — aka your voice, logo, colors, fonts, tone, & aesthetic — is what visually & verbally establishes who your business is, makes it recognizable, makes it memorable, and ultimately makes it appealing to both new and existing customers.

Essentially, your brand identity is everything that makes your business unique and gives it a personality. Your ~ vibes ~ if you will.

Having a strong brand identity is key to not only being able to more easily create content, but to have that content be profitable & effective as well.

The Lounge Shop () could teach a Master Class in brand identity 🎓

With their established voice, color palette, tone, and visual style, they’re able to effortlessly create content about everything from product drops & new arrivals to seasonal content & viral trends.

And their content WORKS. The proof? Their posts consistently get 100+ engagements (their viral content earns them upwards of 5,000+!!), and over the years they’ve grown from an Etsy shop with a few sweatshirts to a now-expanding physical store with a huge array of offerings including clothing, jewelry, home decor, and more.

➡️ Swipe to see a few of my favorite posts from (including some mind-blowing stats from a viral post 🤯) and make sure to check out their IG for more inspo!

POV: Trying to make the perfect post to break your 4-year hiatus 🫣

I can’t believe it’s been nearly 4 YEARS since I’ve posted to The Buffalo Creative’s Instagram feed!(!!!!)

After feeling professionally and personally burnt out in the first half of 2021, I made the very difficult decision to take a break from TBC’s social media side (including client-based social media management as well as posting on TBC’s own Instagram page) in an effort to regroup and figure out a path forward that didn’t have me burning the candle at both ends.

Well life only “life-d” harder after that and what was intended to be a temporary few months off turned into years…

During that time I never stopped thinking of TBC’s social media and all of the ways I could help local businesses here in WNY, and now that this is my full time job and life has *slightly* slowed down I finally feel ready to turn all of my notes/saves/drafts/ideas into published content on this page!

So, this post is my official reentry onto the grid. My ice breaker. The silly little group of photos that is freeing me of my decision paralysis and getting me back into the groove.

It’s only because of the support, encouragement, and love from all of my family, friends, business buddies, internet besties, and WNY community that I feel confident enougThe Andy Warhol Museumnto TBC’s Instagram, so thank you for being here and welcoming me back with open arms! 🩷

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ In honor of I want to spotlight some awesome LGBTQ+ local businesses who do a great job on Instagram!

Each of these businesses consistently posts quality, aesthetically pleasing content that makes them fun to follow in general as well as makes you want to purchase from them as a consumer.

Here’s my favorite thing about each account that really makes them stand out:

1️⃣ : The way they showcase artists (in store and virtually) is not only informative, but a work of art in itself

2️⃣ : These folks are masters of adding humor into their captions in a way that doesn’t overshadow the actual call to action

3️⃣ .plants: Between the plant puns and the fun energy they bring to their posts, Daddy’s Plants’ content always sticks out in the best way

4️⃣ : The way they constantly come up with new background ideas for their posts is equal parts genius and impressive

5️⃣ : Trend Up has one of the best uses of customer content I’ve ever seen, which both showcases that their store is a popular place to shop and makes featured customers feel special

6️⃣ : Their posts are beautifully simple and to-the-point, and captions always start off with a hook that makes followers want to engage

7️⃣ : Design p**n at its finest, their content encapsulates exactly who the the brand is so followers know exactly what their store is like IRL

Check out each of these businesses’ Instagram’s to see more of their posts, and make sure to stop in and say hello to them soon!
