Throwback Thursday:
Al-Imdaad Foundation Housing&Shelter Project
Working with Al-Imdaad proves to be truly an eye- and heart-opening experience. The places we have got to visit and fantastic people we have got to meet is the ultimate experience every designer should strive to have: to be able to add to the improvement of the lives of others while constantly changing personal perspective of the world around him/herself.
This particular shoot took us to the heart of Estcourt, near Drakensberg, KZN. There, Al-Imdaad Foundation aims to identify especially needy families and individuals in different areas who may have otherwise fallen through the cracks of development initiatives. One of the most pressing needs for many South Africans in this position is housing and shelter. Long backlogs of people wait for their housing needs to be addressed and the most vulnerable widows, elderly, orphans and disabled often find their access to housing delivery limited.
Working with local authorities and poverty eradication structures in different areas, the Al-Imdaad Foundation can identify these cases and address their needs through its housing and shelter programme.
