Well howdy:) About 6 months ago, I started a full-time job at a library software company, and BOLD has become very part-time. Still, I have some clients that I just can't imagine not working with, and some new projects that come my way that I can't turn down.

At the top of that list are Tara and Bethany at the Norton County Community Foundation. They are fun and fantastic to work with. After completing their Annual Report, we moved on to a website facelift. Here it is! And if you are so inclined, feel free to donate - November is Match Month ;)

I'd like to address the topic of NEWSLETTERS. I work with a lot of small business owners that don't have the budget to hire someone to do these for them, but there are still ways to keep it looking clean, professional and easy-to-read. Here's a few tips:

1. Pick a font and go with it. As a general rule, your newsletter should not have more than 3 fonts total on the entire document. Try picking one for the main body copy, one for headlines and one for sub-heads. Left justify body copy.

2. Go easy on the clip art/word art. I know many of you have to use Word or Publisher to create your newsletter, but resist the temptation to cover it with cutesy little pictures. Opt for well-designed graphics or images that are simple, powerful and relevant to your text. Inserting good photos that you take is a great idea.

3. Put the most important stuff on the front page. Remember, people tend to have a short attention span - give them what they need quickly.

4. If you're overwhelmed, leave it to the pros. Running your own business or organization is hard. Stick to what your great at and get help where you need it. BOLD regularly sets up newsletter or email templates at a reasonable cost that you can reuse over and over again, and use your time for what you do best.
