1884 - Angelo Moriondo developed a coffee machine and presented his invention in Turin. He wanted to satisfy the always rushing customers in his bar. The drink prepared in such a machine was called “espresso”. Espresso means "squeezed" in Italian.

Macchiato (espresso macchiato; Italian caffè macchiato [kafˈfɛ mmakˈkjaːto]; lit. “stained”) is a coffee drink made by adding a minimal amount (“speck”) of milk, usually frothed, to espresso.

Macchiato is significantly stronger and more aromatic, seemingly similar in ingredients to cappuccino. Like cappuccino, it serves as the basis for latte art. When adding ice milk it is called ital. Freddo, hot - Italian. Caldo.
