I don't know who needs to hear this but....
Your need to get everything right the first time...
Your commitment to "perfect" (whatever that is)...
Your belief that if you don't see instant ROI you've somehow done something wrong...
Is costing you valuable information.

I was talking to a potential FB and Instagram ads client this week. She's not launching her course for a couple months, which means she should be testing out her messaging and potential audience groups NOW.

She was worried. "I don't want to put money into ads until I KNOW I've got the messaging perfect."

But I told her that she's missing the point of the testing period of ads to begin with.
We WANT audience groups to flop- then we know what won't work so we can sub in a different group.
We WANT messaging to miss the mark- then we can tweak and see what DOES connect.
We WANT to run ads with a strategy because even if they aren't wild successes the first month (spoiler: they rarely are!) then we have INVALUABLE data on consumer behavior that we can digest and use as we get closer to the launch.

You succeed or you learn. But you don't lose.
Unless you just stay stuck waiting for perfect.

New branding is in the works over here...

Because we've been so booked out, our own branding and materials have taken a back seat, so it feels good to get the ball rolling on some of these new brand elements along with clarifying our messaging!

{BTW we're totally booked for Marketing Director retainers, but do have some spaces for Facebook/Instagram ad clients starting in October & November, and we'll be opening Marketing Funnel Intensives for those months soon! DM me if you want info on those!)

A few weeks ago we saw Hootie & The Blowfish in concert. I wasn't a super fan or anything, but who doesn't love that 90's nostalgia tingle when they here "Only Wanna Be With You"...right?!?

So by a weird twist of fate we ended up in the 10th row so I had a great view of lead signer, Darius Rucker throughtout the show. He's got this incredible voice- somehow gravely and deep but also light with complete control.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And as a former musical theater major that I am, I noticed that he doesn't really sing out of his register- he's not straining to his ridiculously high notes, he's not throwing in runs to show off his huge range, he's sticking right to the sweet spot of his vocal register. Which is actually kind of rare for pop singers these days.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then I thought "if you have THAT voice, why would you ever leave your register?". When he sings the notes that come easily and naturally to him, they sound amazing. The audience gets a treat. And his vocal cords stay happy and healthy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My takeaway was this: if you're GOOD at what you do. Like REALLY GREAT at something very specific, you don't have to try and make your life and job harder to be of service to people.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can be excellent right in your sweet spot and people will know you for it. And likely love you for it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Think of the parts of your job that feel easy to you. Focus there. Be the best THERE. Maybe expand your range later. But its not cheating to hang out there either.

Someone asked me yesterday: why do you focus on launches, list building, and lead generation? Don’t you build full websites anymore?

So the truth is sometimes I do this full site projects and I still love them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BUT the reason I like to focus on launches and funnels and FB ads for growth is that these are the ways biz owners invite new people into their businesses so they can serve them. My work tends to be making sure the invitation gets in front of the right people (the ones who really want to and need to be there), laying out the welcome mat, and making sure they feel comfortable and excited to stay once they come in the door.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s a challenge and also a gift in working on those specific area of a business. And it’s an area that lets me use all my favorite skills: sales/landing page design, tech setup, often PDF design, marketing image and copy creation and more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So maybe today you can take a look at how you’re welcoming people into your business. What’s one thing you know you do well in that process???

As thrilled as I am to be starting to offer Facebook & Instagram advertising strategy and management, I was getting down on myself recently.

He looked at me like I was crazy. “Suzi, you’ve been in marketing for 15 years! Facebook marketing didn’t EXIST back when you started!” 😆
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He’s totally right. Just because you didn’t get a degree in what you love to do now, doesn’t mean you aren’t qualified to do it. Your experiences and passions, failures and successes, hiccups and a-has have all led you right here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Celebrate your path. Embrace the crooked swerving parts. Use those detours to serve your customers with even more value.
