Fast growth kills more gyms than slow growth does.
Sounds backwards, but I've watched it happen for 7.5 years. A gym runs a big promo. Signs a wave of new members in a month. Feels great. Then the front desk can't keep up, follow-up falls apart, and half those members are gone by summer. Now the owner is more tired and no richer.
Growth without a system behind it is just churn with better marketing.
One of our clients, Gregg, left us a review today. He didn't brag about how fast his gym grew, even though it did. The line that stood out to me: the growth "makes sense and feels sustainable."
That's the whole thing. Chad on our team didn't hand him software and disappear. He built the system with him, then coached him through the why behind every step. So when Gregg got stuck, he had someone who knew exactly how to get moving again.
Here's a stat most owners never hear. Raise member retention by just 5% and total revenue can jump 25% or more. Keeping members is worth more than adding them. Almost nobody builds for it.
We do, because we own gyms ourselves. My business partner runs 152 of them as of last month. We build what we'd want running in our own clubs.
So here's my question for every gym owner reading this: how many of the members you signed in January are still walking through your door today?
