Central Market Texas Wine Event 2025

Would you believe that wine has been produced and consumed in Texas for more than 350 years? Spanish, French, and German immigrants brought a winemaking culture along with them as far back as the 1600's, but the modern Texas wine industry is much younger. Central Market is a strong supporter of Texan wine, and their two-week event in June included wines from manyregions and many wineries. Summit promoted wines from McPherson Cellars, Becker Vineyards, Duchman Family Winery, and Las Espinas, a new venture from the youngest and newest winemaker from the McPherson family, Kassie McPherson. Texas wines have come a long way in the last fifty years, and their reputation for quality, consistency, and uniqueness continues to grow.

Sancerre Rose AOC

When most wine drinkers hear the word "Sancerre," their thoughts go immediately to memories of dry, crisp Sauvignon Blancs. Or perhaps if they have had the pleasure of visiting the village of Sancerre in the world-famous Loire Valley, they will remember a delicious meal with a perfect bottle of Sancerre. But did you know that a Sancerre can also be made with Pinot Noir? The Comte de la Chevaliere Sancerre Rose made by the Cave de Sancerre cooperative, which has been producing wine since 1963 is astonishingly aromatic and fruit-forward with enough acidity to make your mouth water as you enjoy it with fish or poultry or maybe even a piece of strawberry pie. Our has worked with this wine in Central Market stores across Texas before, and it is always a crowd pleaser.

Gaudi-inspired Bottle Sleeves on Vilarnau Organic Cava

This eye-catching bottle is inspired by Barcelona’s vibrant mosaic art, making it the ultimate centrepiece on any table. The Cava inside is just as impressive, with a gold medal from the Drinks Business Global Organic and Vegan Masters 2022 to show for it. It’s made by Vilarnau – one of the first wineries to be awarded the Wineries for Climate Protection certification. Energy comes from their biomass boiler and vineyards are irrigated from the rainwater-filled lake that surrounds the winery – every decision made is with the aim of conserving their environment. Aged for 18 months ahead of release, this Brut Reserva makes the perfect apéritif. Expect bright notes of crisp apple, ripe pear and brioche.

Becker Vineyards at The Wine Rendezvous

Summit was honored to pour Texas wines of distinction from Becker Vineyards at the Wine Rendezvouz Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott on May 31st. We poured Becker Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Saigne Rose for a large and jubilant crowd of wine and food lovers on a warm spring day. Becker Vineyards is located in the Hill Country of Fredericksburg, Texas and is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2025. In the words of its founder Richard Becker, talking about the Hill Country, "I like the way it feels, I like the way it smells, I like the way it tastes in our wine." This family-owned winery exemplifies the uniqueness of the Texas terroir and has eleven different varietals spread across 66 acres. Becker Vineyards' wine has been served in the stateliest of settings, including seven times in the White House, the James Beard Foundation in New York, the Texas Governor's Mansion and many other famous restaurants in Texas and the United States.

Our First Soju Tasting

Our founder Eric Henry lived in Seoul, South Korea as a child where ramen was his favorite dish, so he was delighted to be able to introduce three flavors of Uju Yong Soju to Central Market customers. Soju is light and easy to drink and quickly becoming a favorite in the United States. Soju pairs well with ramen, of course, as well as pasta salads, seafood or as an aperitif.

Gerard Bertrand's Biodynamic Wines

Red wines, orange wines, white wines, and rose wines by French winemaker Gerard Bertrand are very popular whenever we do tastings in H-E-B, Central Market or other retail locations. Customers are always intrigued by the orange wines because their flavors and aromas are so exotic. Also called "amber wine", orange wine bears the fabric of this fourth color as unique as it is astonishing. Sunny and bright, orange wine, a true wine of the south, offers great aging potential with its fresh and subtle notes. Very dry, it is distinguished by its tannic, complex and radiant character.

🍷 Ventura Selections Seminar at Twin Liquors 🍇
At the invitation of Twin Liquors, Eric Henry, Certified Wine Educator and owner of Summit Wine Tastings conducted a seminar and guided tasting of wines from Ventura Selections. 🇪🇸🇮🇹🇫🇷

An Albarino from Riax Baixas in northern Spain, Lambrusco from northern Italy, and a Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley in France were tasted, described, and loved by an enthusiastic crowd of locals from the Allendale neighborhood in Austin. 🍷✨

The seminar focused on climate and geography and how these three Old World wine producing countries just happen to be the top three wine-producing countries in Europe. 🌍🍇

🍷🇫🇷 A Red and a White Bordeaux

When many people think of Bordeaux, the first thing that comes to mind is a full-bodied red wine. That's fair because only 10% of Bordeaux wines are white.

We got to share both varietals at some tastings in March. 🍇🍷
Chateau Pescaud Bordeaux Superieure — 100% merlot! Well-priced and stunning.

We also got to share Chateau Briot — 100% sauvignon blanc! 🥂✨
Well-rounded, supple and fruity. Easy-drinking and agreeable with a lasting finish.

Central Market customers took a real liking to both varietals and many took one of each! 🛒💫
Some shoppers were surprised (and happy) to learn that there are also white wines from Bordeaux. 😲🍾

🍷 Raeburn Chardonnay from Russian River Valley 🍇
The Russian River Valley is a cool-climate growning region that makes it well-suited for growing Chardonnay.

🌿 The grapes for this second vintage of Raeburn High Flier Chardonnay are from three premium vineyards — Dow, Duvander, and Ricioli.

🌅 After being hand-picked at dawn, the grapes were gently pressed and then racked into oak barrels for fermentation.

👏 Wow! There is nothing more distinctive than a barrel-fermended Chardonnay — it creates a wine with great structure, balance, and mouthfeel.

🍾 Customers at our Central Market tasting appreciated this special wine and sales were robust.
