BON ACCORD CREATIVE HAS RETIRED

After more than 22 years, as of September 1, 2022, I have officially retired from website development and support services.

Instead, I am now focused on my business as a Canva verified expert.

If you require WordPress support in the future, I have a wonderful developer I can connect you with.

Email me at [email protected] if you’d like me to introduce you.

I’m so grateful for everything that this business has given me—I wouldn’t be where I am today without it.

And while I will be a bit sad to say goodbye to this work after so many years, I am incredibly excited about this decision.

All my best,

Brenda

P.S., You can learn all about my Canva offerings over here: BrendaCadman.com

Back in May I shared that after more than 22 years, I would be significantly down scaling my website development offerings and no longer providing website development or support services. Instead I would be focusing on offering only WordPress Inspections.

After some further consideration, I've decided the time has come to retire Bon Accord Creative's website services entirely.

You can get the full details over here:

It feels strange to close that chapter completely. Running a website development company has become such a large part of my identity over the past two decades.

It's what made me the business owner I am today, and I am so grateful for all the people I met along the way and all the lessons I learned.

If you have been part of that journey, thank you. ❤️

Some big changes on the horizon! After supporting businesses with their websites more than 20 years, I will no longer be taking on any new website development projects or providing any ongoing website support services.

I know, right? It feels SO strange to say that after 22 years. 😆
Bon Accord Creative isn't closing. My website development business will now be focused specifically on providing WordPress Inspections for existing business websites.

If you're one of my current clients and you're thinking, "Wait, what? Why don't I know about this?" You likely missed an email from me last month that contained more details, so if that's the case, FB message or email me and I'll give you the full scoop about how I'm ensuring your needs are taken care of.

I'm excited for this next chapter -- the time is right for a change and it will free up more time for me to grow and manage my Canva education business (I've recently been named one of a small handful of verified global Canva Experts, in case you missed that post).

I may even return to my professional organizer roots and begin to offer VIP days for digital organization services (e.g., creating electronic filing systems for entrepreneurs' accounts on platforms like Canva, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc). So holler at me if that might be something you'd be interested in.

Otherwise, if you are looking for a WordPress developer, you are still more than welcome to reach out to me and I will connect you directly with someone that I know well and trust completely to provide you with support.

This is for any of you whose websites are on WordPress!

A lot of business owners are surprised to find out that their website is inadvertently messing with their SEO, damaging their brand’s reputation, and losing important leads.

If you're curious whether your website is helping or hurting your business goals, I have a free quiz for you to take and find out. 😊

Picture it. You’re nervously pacing the refinished hardwood floors in your newly renovated kitchen.

The wine’s been uncorked, Alexa’s playing soft jazz, and the charcuterie looks perfect.

It’s the night of your housewarming party and you’re so excited to show everyone the results of months of hard work.

You check the time again—6:30. You expected that people would have started arriving by now.

So, you open your phone and head to the Facebook Event to see if there’s anyone commenting. Maybe there’s been a traffic delay or something.

And there are notifications.

Several comments, actually.

Your guests have arrived at the address you gave them, but there was a typo and you invited them to the wrong house.

When you have an error in your contact for—or anywhere on your contact page–it’s like hosting a party and inviting everyone you know, but not telling them how to actually reach you.

Depending on what you charge, you could be losing out on tens of thousands of dollars by directing hot leads into the void.

Honestly, you would not believe how many issues I find with contact forms.

This video takes you through all kinds of contact page issues that you should be watching out for.

I strongly encourage you to give it a watch, so that you’re not sitting alone at your party.

Sophia was a creative professional that I worked with once upon a time, and I vividly remember when she found herself in a website domain hostage situation.

Her original website support guy had helped her set up her domain name. However, when he did so, he didn’t put Sophia as the domain’s registered owner.

He put his own name, and he wouldn’t willingly hand over the login information so that she could update it.

As a result, Sophia found herself in a legal dispute that dragged on for quite a long period of time. For the duration of that dispute, she had to use an alternate version of her website address.

This scenario of not having your domain account login is quite common but when you put yourself in this situation, you’re at your web designer’s mercy, even if you had a backup of your website.

You need all of your website logins, and I've got a checklist to help you ensure you have all of them.

Your business is more than just a pretty face.

When you’re building or renovating a house, you can save tens of thousands of dollars if you don’t hire a licensed plumber or electrician.

Sure, your house might not be safe to live in, but because you spent most of the budget on decor, it looks absolutely STUNNING on Instagram.

And that’s all that matters. Right?

I don’t know you personally, but I know you. And I know that you would never move into a house that you didn’t feel was structurally sound.

But many successful entrepreneurs don’t understand that the same rules apply when building a home for your online business.

It doesn’t matter how gorgeous your website looks if it doesn’t have the proper foundation in place.

I do for websites what home inspectors do for houses.

Remember when U2 released The Joshua Tree?

Because that was 1987, and if you do remember, you may also find yourself straining to read the wine list in a dimly lit restaurant. (Just go with the Malbec.)

I'm not sure if it's my patience, eyes, or attention span. However, if I'm on a website for a few seconds and still haven't found what I'm looking for, I click away and try something else.

How about you?

(Thought so.)

Take a look at the mobile version of your site right now.

Is the site easy (for someone who likes bran muffins) to scan?

Are your fonts comfortable on the eyes?

Would I be able to scroll down, know if you can help me, and find a way to contact you within a minute or two? If so, fantastic!

If not… check out this video about improving the readability of your website.

When your website is responsible for serving you leads, don't give those leads a reason to choose a competitor!

Having spelling errors on your website automatically gives your visitors the impression of laziness, poor attention to detail, and of a general lack of care for your website.

Not the first impression you want to make, right?

You can reduce the chances of having missed a typo by simply asking your colleagues or friends to proof your website. There is nothing like having a pair of fresh eyes reading your content… and it’s free too!

So your homework (oh yes, there's homework! 😆 ) is to ask one or two of your colleagues or friends to read through your website's copy in the next week and let you know of any errors they catch!

Clients don’t do business with you because your website is pretty.

❌ If people can’t find what they’re looking for on your website, you will lose the business.

❌ If your website loads so slowly that a visitor’s patience wears thin and they abandon your site, you will lose the business.

❌ If your website is offline because it was hacked or otherwise compromised, you will lose the business.

The collection of free training videos I've provided in my Website Training Centre for Entrepreneurs have been created with the goal of helping you take steps to create a more user friendly, performance optimized and secure website.

I hope they are helpful to you, and you'll find there's no need to opt-in. You'll find access to watch the training directly via the link in my bio. 😊
