Obstinate Daughters Press

Obstinate Daughters Press Obstinate Daughters Press is no longer accepting submissions. That said, we are a small group and are looking for skilled writers who tell good stories.

We believe in independent publishing and are committed to helping other authors, especially those underserved in the industry, to achieve their goals. While we appreciate many genres, we believe it is best for all concerned to stay in our wheelhouse, which is books that are similar to The Pecan Man or What Matters in Mayhew by Cassie Dandridge Selleck. Most importantly, we are looking for writers with strong writing skills and who are familiar with Microsoft Word for editing purposes.

I am currently offering editing services for complete (or nearly complete) novel manuscripts. Message me if you are interested in developmental and structural, or copy and line editing on your manuscript. While I will provide more details before contracting with you for editing services, to begin with I would need to see the first three chapters of your work. Based on that, we will discuss your needs and what I can provide. Please note: I would not be interested in editing work with multiple scenes of graphic s*x or violence. (Think PG-13 or mild R-rated) I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with that type of novel, but it is not a good fit for either of us. I am particularly interested in character-driven fiction with strong storylines. You may message me directly or email me at [email protected].

I'm writing this from the Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University where I just started their graduate program. In two years, I will have a Masters in Communication and Storytelling and, though the degree will be nice, it is the journey that is most exciting to me. We will not be taking submissions for the next year or so, for obvious reasons, but we are still available to edit or proof your Ms, or format it for self-publishing. We are still committed to the idea of independent publishing and want to encourage you to go for it. Self-efficacy is is the word of the day. Look it up. Adopt it for yourself. You are capable. There is nothing you cannot LEARN to do. What is holding you back? You have nothing to lose. Seriously, y'all. Nothing. Stop listening to the naysayers and the ego- and profit-driven folks who try to shame you into silence. You CAN self-publish your book. Write. Edit. Format. Publish. One step at a time. Ready? Go!

Thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Len Edgerly of The Kindle Chronicles. Hope you all will listen through my interviews, but also the second half of the podcast where Len's mother is telling stories of her part in our history. Fascinating.

These lovely ladies from Apex, NC read The Pecan Man for their book club. Wish I could have visited with them...I LOVE doing virtual visits through FaceTime and I JUST LEARNED I can do video chats through Facebook! Who knew??? I know, I know, everyone except me. Cool thing about Apex is that everyone on my Mom's side of our family came from that general area of NC. Roxboro, Leasburg, Butner (used to be Veazey Ridge), Fuquay Varina, Stem, Hurdle Mills....some are actually family names. (Hurdle, Lea, Veazey) Thank you for sending this photo! Love it and hope I get a chance to chat with you all sometime.
