A month as PRO & Marketing Coordinator at BOTESSA , and its been a ride already😅

Coming in at a crucial time as Botswana prepares to host the CUCSA Games this June, the flagship tertiary sports event in Southern Africa ,has pushed me straight into action. From day one, it has been fast-paced, demanding, and deeply fulfilling.

So far, the journey has involved:
• Strengthening and repositioning the association’s brand image
• Driving digital activations and engagement campaigns across multiple platforms
• Introducing fresh, student-led marketing concepts and storytelling ideas
• Supporting stakeholder engagement and weekly sponsorship negotiations
• Coordinating visibility strategies around one of the region’s biggest university sporting events
• Balancing strategic communication with operational ex*****on behind the scenes

Beyond the title, this opportunity brings together two worlds I am deeply passionate about marketing and sports leadership. With a background in marketing, branding, digital engagement, and strategic communication, combined with years of experience in sports leadership, athlete representation, events, and volunteerism, I’ve been able to approach this role with both creativity and purpose. Understanding both the business and athlete side of sport continues to shape how I contribute to building impactful sporting experiences and stronger sports brands.

I’m grateful for the privilege to serve, learn, and contribute while adjusting to a new executive committee role. The passion for sports, marketing, leadership, and volunteerism continues to grow stronger every day.

This is only the beginning — and I genuinely cannot wait to see what’s in store for us in the months ahead. 🇧🇼🏐🔥

A whole me? Yes , A certified Quality Assurance Champion! 🙌🏽

The past 3 days have been nothing short of amazing.

I had the privilege of attending a Quality Assurance and Enhancement in Education short course at BA ISAGO University, facilitated by the incredible Kelebogile Makati and Portia Gaseitsewe.

We explored various QA frameworks and processes for ETPs, and here are my top takeaways:

Quality is a moving target;
customer expectations are always evolving, so there’s always room for improvement.

Quality processes follow a cycle;
PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) is key for continuous improvement.

QMS should not be a tick-box exercise for compliance, but a strategic tool that informs decision-making, risk management, and service enhancement.

The evolution of quality is powerful,
from the rigid inspection era of the 19th century, to process-focused continuous improvement in the mid-20th century, and now to a strategic, risk-based, data-driven approach integrating analytics and AI.

Grateful for the knowledge, inspired for the journey ahead, and ready to champion quality in every space I step into!

Leisure is not a Distraction, it’s fuel for Academic performance!📚🏃🏾‍♂️

A week ago, I was invited to present to university students at a book launch at BA ISAGO University, where I spoke alongside psychologists, authors, and creatives on the importance of balancing books and leisure.

My presentation emphasised how structured leisure time is not a distraction from academic work, but a strategic tool that enhances concentration, reduces burnout, improves mental well-being, and ultimately contributes to better academic performance.

I also explored different types of leisure including active (sports and recreation), creative (reading, music, arts), social (peer engagement and clubs), and restorative (rest, reflection, and mindfulness)

These were supported by relevant statistics showing that students who maintain a balanced routine demonstrate higher productivity, improved cognitive function, and stronger academic outcomes.

The session encouraged students to adopt intentional and structured leisure habits as a form of self-care and personal development, rather than viewing leisure as lost study time.

“Project management lives in delivery! while Product Thinking spans all three — Strategy. Discovery. Delivery”.

A week ago, I attended the Product Thinking Masterclass for Senior Leaders and Executives hosted by the Center for a Reimagined Africa for a Reimagined Africa under the The African Leadership University
Facilitated by Chidi Afulezi the room was filled with deep, honest conversations between private sector leaders and public fellowship executives.

One question anchored everything:

👉🏾 Moving from “CAN we do it?” to “SHOULD we do it?”

That shift is uncomfortable.
It challenges ego.
It challenges tradition.
It calls fear

But it is exactly where real value creation begins.

Too often, we focus on delivery — timelines, budgets, implementation plans. That is project thinking.

Product thinking, however, spans:

• Strategy – Why are we building this? Who is it for? What problem are we solving?
• Discovery – Experiment. Test. Validate. Iterate.
• Delivery – Build what has been proven valuable.

Risk is not avoided — it is managed through validation.
Failure is not feared — it is data.

Many initiatives fail not because they cannot be delivered — but because leaders never paused long enough to ask whether they should exist in the first place.

Leaders have to be humble enough to pursue discovery. Fear of failure is one of the factors that limits leaders. Working on assumptions can be detrimental. Assumptions are not facts until validated.

A milestone in my marketing journey

Fresh from completing my Master’s in Strategic Marketing, I was appointed Marketing Coordinator for the National Paralympics Games. It was my first major national assignment and honestly, a big learning curve.

We started from the ground up, putting together an integrated marketing and communications plan that touched everything from traditional media to digital platforms, content creation, radio/TV, sponsorships, and corporate partnerships. The Games brought together teams from across Botswana, across different disability sports, and were hosted in Jwaneng Mine Town.

Beyond the Games themselves, we took the message on the road. Through activation tours in selected towns, we reached athletes, hosted qualifying trials, and created awareness around sports for people with disabilities as PASSOBO.

Another special was partnering with a local disability celebrity during the activations. His presence, energy, and story brought the campaign to life at both mall activations and online through his Facebook posts.

Some of The photos below reflect one of our main goals: strong visibility and consistent branding across all touchpoints — from activations to the Games themselves — ensuring athletes, stakeholders, and the public clearly connected with the message. We branded our sponsors every where.

What this experience taught me:
• Attention matters — creative, well-executed ideas cut through the noise.
• Inclusive marketing is delicate — marketing disability sport requires care, empathy, and intention.
• Sport creates real value — beyond in-kind sponsorships, it offers powerful commercial and social returns.
• Sports marketing has changed — influence, storytelling, and digital engagement now shape impact.

Grateful for such an opportunity thanks to Paralympics Association of Sport Botswana
