Emotional health is one of the biggest issues impacting today’s youth. In honor of month, we're highlighting some of the resources available for teens by our friends at The Jed Foundation - JED and Instagram.
The Pressure to Be Perfect campaign teaches students, parents and teachers on how to create healthy boundaries with Instagram. Finding the balance between staying "in the know" and finding downtime away from social media is incredibly important for teens' well-being.
Pressure to be Perfect is about recognizing that what you see posted by others is just one part of their story—a single post or video rarely reflects all that is happening behind the scenes. That realization can help free us from the pressure of thinking we need to conform to a certain set of standards when we post. Moving from a mindset of comparing yourself with others to one where you are thoughtfully sharing yourself with others could help make the time you spend on Instagram more intentional and rewarding.
When we were designing the landing page for the Pressure to Be Perfect campaign, we figured why not present this critical information on how to make Instagram work for teens, then to literally present it in an Instagram News Feed interface?
The top of the landing page was recreated to look just like an Instagram Profile page. The Instagram Story Highlights are clickable, embedded jump links, meant to mimic the most important posts of the page.
We utilized Instagram posts as "pop-ups" to highlight the most important information, the downloadable toolkits and exercises available to teens, parents and teachers.
