Rosh Hashanah, which translates from Hebrew to mean “the head of the year,” is one of Judaism's holiest days. The two-day celebration marks the start of the Jewish New Year and is filled with traditions, like eating a round challah and saying prayers near a body of water.

Since it is based on the Hebrew calendar, Rosh Hashanah begins on the first day of the seventh month, so this year’s celebration will begin at sunset today - Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 and continue through sundown on Sunday, Sept. 17.

King gave his most famous speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963 to a crowd of more than 250,000 people. He had been making direct references to the American dream in speeches since 1960, and, originally, this wasn’t going to be part of his speech that day in the nation’s capital.

“I started out reading the speech, and I read it down to a point … the audience response was wonderful that day … And all of a sudden this thing came to me that … I’d used many times before ... ‘I have a dream,’” King told Donald H. Smith in an interview on November 29, 1963. “And I just felt that I wanted to use it here … I used it, and at that point I just turned aside from the manuscript altogether. I didn’t come back to it.”

The primary message he conveyed through both his list of dreams and the original speech was one calling for racial justice by way of ending segregation and discrimination.

“We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating 'For Whites Only.' We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

TOMORROW is AND !!! Woo hoo! Here's an opportunity to surprise and delight your members. Whip up some refreshing daiquiri flavors at the bar and serve tasting sizes. Fire up the BBQ and grill up hot dogs for a pop-up hot dog bar. Go a bit overboard with all the fixings. Set up a vote system to determine members' favorite hot dog toppings. Capture photos and video of members professing their favorite daiquiri flavor and their preferred hot dog toppings.

Go the extra mile and include the kids: Have a hot dog drawing contest!

Share your video/story on social media the next day and a link to the video in your next member video. Plan for an article in the next newsletter.

In last week's Tuesday Tips, I shared lots of information about Meta's new social media platform: Threads. If you missed it, I will share a few tips this week to help you get started. I'm also adding a special bonus lesson for the Instagram Master Class, which will also be available to Communication Club Members. This week's tip...

How to set up your Threads profile:
Step #1: First, download the app (iOS or Google) - it’s only on mobile at the moment.
Step #2: Login using your Instagram account. If you're already logged into the Instagram app, there will be a prompt to log in using that account, or you can switch to another.
Step #3: Now, it's time to write your bio. You can either write your own or click the "Import from Instagram" button and it'll do it for you automatically.
Step #4: You can then choose whether you'd like your Threads profile to be public or private.

You can do that in less than 30 seconds. Awesome!
Special note: Threads sign-up also includes an auto-follow button, allowing your new Threads account to follow every account you follow on Instagram. That means there’s a very high chance that every single one of your Instagram followers who joined Threads decided to auto-follow your club’s account.
