Rebranding Afrirent Holdings - A Passion Project Born in Curiosity and Courage
Rebranding an established company-especially one that operates across multiple sectors-isn’t just design work. It’s archaeology. It’s soul-searching. It’s stepping into a house with many rooms and trying to understand the story in its walls before you even think of touching the paint.
Two months ago, while pushing the promo for my book The Unseen Strategy, I stumbled across Afrirent Holdings on LinkedIn. Their bright orange lion’s head stopped me mid-scroll-bold, confident, full of promise. It had the kind of presence that says, “We’re here. We’re fearless.” And I loved that.
But as I looked closer, I felt a little tug-the kind designers know all too well. The original icon carried good symbolism, but the detailing in the lion’s head felt a little busy, almost distracting from the strength it was meant to communicate. When I visited their website, I discovered even more: Afrirent is a group company with multiple sub-brands, and the lion’s motif echoed through them all. A golden thread-beautiful, but not yet woven into one unified tapestry.
My sensible side whispered, “Leave it. This will be a mountain of work.”
But my creative spirit-the stubborn dreamer-leaned in and said, “Climb.”
So I started. And halfway through, I paused. Then I returned, because greatness often germinates in those uncomfortable spaces where uncertainty meets curiosity. This wasn’t a commissioned job. No brief. No invoice. Just passion, vision, and a deep respect for what already exists.
What Worked About the Original Logo
A powerful, recognizable symbol: the lion-a timeless emblem of leadership, strength, and authority.
A striking colour palette: that vivid orange radiates life, energy, and confidence.
Strong brand recall: the consistency of the lion motif across the group shows intentional identity.
What Needed Refinement
The icon’s hyper-detailed ex*****on made it visually heavy and less adaptable across different applications.
The level of intricacy risked losing clarity at small sizes-an issue for a modern, multi-platform brand.
The connection between the main holding logo and its subsidiaries wasn’t fully harmonized, leaving room for a more cohesive visual language.
My Rendition
I set out to simplify without diminishing. To honor the original spirit, but present it in a form that speaks fluently across digital, print, signage, and every future platform Afrirent may conquer. My redesign pulls key elements from the wider group, creating a compass-a visual unity-without uprooting the brand’s legacy.
This work is not a critique, nor an attempt to overshadow the beauty of the existing identity. It is simply a creative exploration, a “what-if,” shaped with admiration for the brand and its potential.
And so, here it is-my rendition of the Afrirent Holdings logo, crafted from passion, curiosity, and respect.
