If Will Ferrell is still hitting the pavement handing out neon paper flyers, what’s your brand’s excuse? 🧐👇
True story from the MMS family: Our president’s sister was walking through Times Square with her family when none other than Will Ferrell walked right up to them and handed each of them this exact flyer (check out the second picture!). He was out there in a custom visor, holding a cardboard sign, high-fiving traffic cops, and personally promoting his new Netflix series, The Hawk, which premiered yesterday (July 16th!).
Starstruck, all she could manage to squeeze out was a shaky, "Uuuuu, we love you." (Completely fair reaction, honestly. 😅)
As an organic marketing agency, we are absolutely obsessed with this. Will Ferrell is a global superstar. He has millions of dollars, top-tier PR firms, and the entire weight of Netflix’s multi-million-dollar marketing machine behind him.
Yet, there he was—doing unscalable, old-school, ground-level organic marketing. Why? Because nothing builds buzz quite like real human interaction.
Look closely at that flyer in photo 2. It's not a sleek, heavily branded corporate asset. It’s neon paper, plain text, and a simple message: (IT’S GOOD). It works because it's disruptive, authentic, and memorable.
3 Takeaways for Your Brand:
🔹 Don't hide behind the dashboard: Don't just rely on automated digital ads. Go where your dream audience actually hangs out and make direct contact.
🔹 Do things that don't scale: Send a personalized video message, mail a physical note, or make an unexpected direct introduction. People remember the extra effort.
🔹 Keep it simple: You don’t need a massive production budget to launch a campaign. You need a clear message, a human touch, and the willingness to show up.
If a Hollywood A-lister isn’t too big for grass-roots organic marketing, neither is your business.
