Lizzy Kuzmic’s first trip to Inbound left her with plenty of food for AI thought, not to mention a collection of B2B marketing tactics for home and building brands to test – all of it courtesy of Jay Schwedelson and The Marketing Millennials.

Here are a few things Lou Simon, Brian Gee and Lizzy Kuzmic picked up at Inbound, CEDIA, and RE+.

✏️ Brands are making things easier for installers.

✏️ Public policy is shifting several sectors, especially renewable energy.

✏️ Customer service could be the missing piece of your brand puzzle, according to consumers.

The Renewable Energy Conference — RE+ 2025 — is off to a packed start as major topics loom large over the industry.

We sent our Head of Strategy, Brian Gee, down to Las Vegas to get an early read on the hot buttons.

💡 US public policy shifts are affecting renewable energy.
People aren’t being shy about the future of both residential and commercial renewable energy, from solar and wind to energy storage at-home and at-scale.

With the Investment Tax Credit phasing out at the end of this year, residential battery storage manufacturers and installers alike are refocusing their efforts on innovations in Intelligent Load Management in high-usage homes. They’re also focusing on markets where energy rate increases outpace the national average, emphasizing the insulating value of residential energy storage.

💡 Everyone who can is emphasizing their domestic production.
In 2024, brands were reevaluating their value props in the wake of NEM 3.0. This year, the reevaluation is more existential: how will the industry capture homeowners’ interest in (and purchase of) residential renewable energy when the old incentives are slipping away?

Three takeaways from CEDIA Expo/Commercial Integrator Expo as observed by our Principal, Lou Simon.

1️⃣ Installer-first software is everywhere.
Brands are racing to make complex tech easier to connect and manage, so the homeowner’s experience feels simple.

2️⃣ Behind every great brand is reputation-saving customer service.
Parity in product quality requires more from brands and the people behind them. If you’ve got an issue at a job site and you can’t resolve it quickly, you lose time, profit, and customer trust.

3️⃣ Lighting stole the show.
Lutron Electronics' presence made it clear that intelligent lighting is driving attention and shaping conversations around smart homes.

Channels remain crowded—distributors, installers, builders, and retail all competing. It’s a pattern we know well from home electrification and other home-improvement markets.

At Simon/Myers, we’re watching these shifts closely to continue cutting through the noise for our clients and winning with their audiences.
