Brilliant day at the warm-up event today for which I’m excited to attend in September (the Entrepreneurs version of Glastonbury festival)

Know your priorities before the week starts and map out when to tackle them 🗓️

A tip: keep Monday meeting-free. Use that energy for creative thinking and lighter admin to ease into the week.

And don’t forget to schedule in some self-care because life is all about balance ⚖️

Ok, hands up, I admit that I’ve been hoarding my content!

Hard to admit for someone who is all about creating action, but I’ve been working quietly behind the scenes on ideas about how I want to show up here but you see, perfectionism seems to have snuck on me and I wasn’t ready until I could see the bigger picture….

Turns out all I needed was a quiet weekend and some sticky notes.

For someone who stares at a screen all day, you will be surprised to learn my breakthrough came from mapping everything out the old-school way….on post-it notes!

You can all keep me accountable now!! 👀

Loving seeing people post their 10 year comparisons with the current trend… and a great time for me to share this reflection…

January 2016 is when I took the jump to running my business full time.

It was scary but was a full body YES to being self employed.

6 months earlier I had quit my job working in recruitment (which included a hell of a lot of marketing, sales and communications) and before that working as a marketing coordinator at a tech company following a Business Degree.

I had always known I wanted to work for myself but had taken on a few evenings working in a pub whilst I built my freelance work (because I’m not really much of a risk taker!)

During that time I had pitched over the bar to a customer who ran a marketing agency and I ended up heading up all the social media services for all her clients for a few years, which gave me great insight into corporate industries that I wouldn’t have necessarily have got insight into myself.

Back then I was fairly shy with promoting myself and always joke that self employment was the deepest self development course I’ve ever enrolled onto! 🎢

From there so much has happened and achieved my goal of getting paid to talk more than I write, with the introduction of my mentoring style sessions and teaching online courses from 2018.

Running a business is ever evolving and expanding, and I love the people I’ve met and projects I’ve got involved in along the way!

I’ve had a lot of clients apologise to me this week that they didn’t do much on their business over the festive break.

AHEM! Can I remind you that this is the only time of the year where people EXPECT you to take time off. 🥰

So if you did…

Be proud that you took time off

Banish that guilt about being unproductive

Savour those moment offline

Most importantly… dont apologise for not doing anything. You need your rest.

If you don’t take time off, then when can you???

I urge you to prioritise your energy levels with be more sustainable working practices.

Yes I have to admit it’s taking some adjustment getting back to work after 2 weeks off, but here’s some ways I’ve been starting with ease this week by:

- Taking plenty of screen breaks

- Ensuring I switch off from work in the evening (as I can easily get in a hyperfocus!)

- Factoring in admin time at the start of the week so I feel prepared

- Following the rhythm I’ve set in my online calendar so I don’t overdo it!

Let’s be honest, it’s the only time of the year when people expect you to be off work. I usually take 2-3 weeks off at Christmas as important for me to start the year raring to go!! (Last year I took 2 months off and spent Xmas in Bali where I found this rather fabulous tree!!) 🎄

Though I don’t turn my brain off for the entire holiday time, I do make sure a good proportion is immersing myself in life without thinking about work. This time also allows me to work on my business development. I love to reflect on what needs change and have a good tidy up too!

I see this time as a chrysalis, where I go through the phases of:

🦩 Resting

🦩 Reconnecting

🦩 Reflecting

🦩 Remembering my why

🦩 Restructuring

🦩 Re-emerging 🦋🦋🦋

Here are some ideas of how you can prepare for your Christmas cocoon:

1️⃣ Start by blocking out your diary for the time you will be taking off

2️⃣ Communicate with your client and customers that you won’t be working on your set dates

3️⃣ Clear down your desk and schedule unfinished tasks for your return (if you’re struggling with this, then pop me a message across for my free handy task planner matrix)

4️⃣ Organise some plans so that you don’t feel the work guilt!

5️⃣ Pop on your “out of office” on your email and enjoy your time off!

We all deserve a rest, so please gift yourself these moments! 🙏🏼🫶🏻✨

The new year is a great time for a fresh start, so make sure you take advantage to start the year with a change 💥
