We've been promoting the Special Forces Green Beret Memorial™ in the SFA 78 Sentinel for the past few months. I first learned about it last October at the SFA Convention. Today I was honored to receive two Project Delta challenge coins from Fred Horne via my friend Lonny Holmes, former editor of SFA Chapter 78's Sentinel. Mr. Horne wrote one of my all time favorite stories for the Sentinel, which appeared in the January 2019 issue. It's called "Part One: In-Country Cherry before SF." It tells the his story of how he, as a 17-year-old high school dropout, joins the army and lands in Vietnam on his 18th birthday, where he sustains combat wounds from a mortar attack only hours into his tour. All of this led to a career as a Green Beret NCO and direct commission to Captain. He had told me that writing this story was part of the process of making peace with this part of his past.

The coins commemorate Project Delta and one in particular honors KIA's by listing all of their names on one side of the coin.
