Gauteng Couple Suspects Uber Driver of Malicious Intent: Brindhaven - KZN

A couple from Gauteng, who safely returned home, contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) to express concerns regarding the potential harm that an Uber driver with malicious intentions could cause to passengers.

According to the couple (details withheld), they booked an Uber from Brindhaven - KZN to King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) earlier in the week. A white Suzuki arrived, and the couple proceeded to their destination. During the ride, they realized that the driver had taken an unusual route, using the old main road and crossing a steel bridge not commonly used at night.

The driver received a call on his mobile phone and then drove towards an isolated road that bypassed the airport. The female passenger attempted to jump from the moving vehicle after the driver ignored requests to change direction. This startled the driver, who eventually turned the car around and dropped them off at the airport.

Despite contacting Uber and providing the driver's details, an image and vehicle registration, the couple received no assistance. Reaction Officers are in possession of this information and will make the driver's details public when authorized.

The couple is concerned that the driver may attempt to harm other passengers.
