NINTH WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN EKURHULENI — A WARNING TO OUR COMMUNITIES
The discovery of a ninth woman’s body in Dawn Park, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday, 17 September 2026, has intensified concern surrounding a series of deaths involving women across the East Rand.
Police have confirmed that this is the ninth body discovered since July. Investigators are examining whether the cases are connected, but SAPS has not confirmed that a serial killer is responsible. A multidisciplinary team is investigating the circumstances, evidence, timelines and possible links between the cases.
The latest discovery comes after several women were found dead in areas including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein and KwaThema. The cases have understandably caused fear and anxiety among residents, particularly women who live, work, walk or exercise in the affected areas.
⚠️ SAFETY REMINDER FOR WOMEN
While investigations continue, women can take reasonable precautions without allowing fear to control their lives:
• Avoid exercising alone, particularly in isolated areas. Where possible, walk or run with a friend or group.
• Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Keep your cellphone with you and make sure it is charged before leaving home.
• Stay aware of your surroundings. Avoid becoming distracted by your phone or headphones when walking or exercising.
• Choose populated and well-lit areas and avoid secluded routes where possible.
• Trust your instincts. If a person, vehicle, location or situation makes you uncomfortable, leave the area and move toward other people or a safe location.
• Be particularly cautious when meeting people you have only communicated with online. SAPS has specifically warned about cases in Kempton Park involving people who met others through dating platforms or social med
