Allegations of Irregular Appointments and Missing Funds Surface at Ditsobotla Municipality

LICHTENBURG — Concerns have been raised over appointments and financial management at Ditsobotla Local Municipality following the intervention of the National Cabinet Representative (NCR)

According to residents and community representatives, the municipality’s current administrator, Mr. Ralikontsane, has retained and appointed individuals to acting positions who allegedly do not meet the required qualifications.

Complaints point to the Technical Services department, where several people are said to be acting in roles without the necessary credentials. Similar issues are alleged at the Itsoseng and Coligny satellite offices, where individuals reportedly serving as acting managers do not qualify for even supervisory positions.

A further allegation involves the appointment of an Acting Security Manager using what sources describe as a fraudulent PSIRA document. The same sources identify Nkgapele and Mokoso as acting managers at satellite offices despite allegedly lacking supervisor-level qualifications.

The most serious claim relates to municipal finances. Sources allege that when Ralikontsane took control of the municipal bank account, R3.5 million went missing. It remains unclear who is responsible, and no arrests have been publicly confirmed in connection with the matter.

Community members say they had hoped the NCR’s intervention would stabilize the municipality and address mismanagement. They are now calling for accountability and for the recovery of the allegedly missing funds, stating that this will only be possible if the administration acts independently of undue internal influence.

This left many residents frustrated. The community demanded answers on why past budgets allocated for Blydeville’s development have not translated into visible progress on the ground.

⚠️⚠️ Update
We in Ext 4 with Councilor Thapelo Sehemo. He has just provided us with the latest update.

Councilor Sehemo held negotiations with Sergeant Merafe. They agreed to engage the Office of the MEC to request an intervention. The purpose is to facilitate a meeting between the community, Mayor Morutse, and Mr. Ralikontsane from the National Cabinet Representative Office.

Following these negotiations, the Councilor was referred to Colonel Baitopi. Colonel Baitopi listened and understood that the community is not in conflict or at war. The community only requires leadership to come and address them directly.

Colonel Baitopi agreed to bring both parties the community and the leadership, together for closure. The agreement still stands.
