On 26 May, FEDHASA Cape hosted its second FEDCON in the Drakenstein region at Diemersfontein Wine & Country Estate in Wellington.

The event brought together representatives from the hospitality and public sectors to discuss current local challenges and how FEDHASA can support its members. It also reinforced the importance of working closely with association partners and local tourism authorities.

A highlight of the day was the appointment of four area ambassadors, who will help strengthen ongoing engagement in the region.

Great hospitality is about creating the right experience from the moment a guest arrives, and sound is an important part of that.

Studies show that background music can affect mood and can even shape how people experience food.

Through our partnership with FLM, FEDHASA members receive up to 40% off tailored music services for hospitality venues.

Technology is changing every part of hospitality, from what happens behind the scenes to the way guests experience a stay.

A big thank you to Louise Hibbert and Access Hospitality for sponsoring the Digital Innovation & Technology Professional of the Year and Revenue & Distribution Manager of the Year categories at the recent FEDHASA Hospitality Awards.

Through the work they do, they understand just how important innovation is to the future of our industry.

South Africa’s dams, rivers and waterways are important assets that support tourism, recreation and many livelihoods.

With this in mind, FEDHASA supports the Department of Water and Sanitation’s decision to revise the proposed Draft Regulations for the Management and Control of Government Waterworks and Surrounding State-Owned Land following extensive stakeholder input.

As FEDHASA National Chairperson Brett Tungay noted, this is an encouraging sign that meaningful public participation is being taken seriously.

We also appreciate the Department’s commitment to further consultation and look forward to continuing the conversation.

A big thank you to Brett Hendricks and the Motsamayi Tourism Group for coming back to the FEDHASA Hospitality Awards this year to sponsor the Leader of the Year Award.

This marks their second year with the awards, and their ongoing involvement plays a vital role in rewarding the people shaping our sector.

It’s through partnerships like this that we get to spotlight those who go the extra mile.

Verified, credible responsible tourism practices are now a baseline expectation for all tourism and hospitality businesses in South Africa.

Knowing this, FEDHASA has formalised a strategic partnership with Fair Trade Tourism – one of Africa’s leading responsible tourism certification bodies – to ensure South African hospitality businesses have the tools and support to meet that expectation head-on.

The MOU establishes a framework for joint education, capacity-building, and advocacy across the sector.
