As we close out Writers Awareness Month, we celebrate not just the stories themselves but the journeys, growth, and dedication that bring them into the world. For our final feature, we’re spotlighting RR Embers—an author whose years of writing and perseverance are culminating in her official debut, Fantasy Romance, Nocturamyst.

At the heart of Nocturamyst is an elven princess bound by duty yet pulled in conflicting directions—between her home kingdom of Ber'iah, the future awaiting her in Yetzirah, and the dark intrigue of Atziluth, where a demon king believes she is the reincarnation of his lost princess. As she navigates betrayal, hidden traps, and dangerous terrain, her journey becomes one of survival, loyalty, and sacrifice—driven by her determination to protect her companion, Liox, Asi. Rich in world-building and layered with emotional stakes, this is a story where destiny is never simple.

As one chapter closes, another begins. RR Embers is already at work on her next novel—a fantasy-meets-dystopian tale that promises darker romance, intense conflict, and morally complex choices for its characters. Nocturamyst is set for release later this year and will be available for pre-order at Fable and Dice.

This Writers Awareness Month, we celebrate the journeys that begin with belief—and the courage to keep going.

Alfred Kamfer, who grew up in the small town of Swellendam, discovered his passion for writing at a young age. After rereading a photo story he loved, a simple but powerful thought struck him: “I can also write.” From that moment, he began filling pages with stories, poems, and songs—often creating his own “books” from school stationery, with libraries becoming his safe haven. What started as curiosity quickly became a lifelong calling.

This year, Alfred published his Afrikaans novel, telling the story of a woman caught between two worlds. Trapped in an abusive marriage and struggling with a stalled writing career, she begins to doubt her worth and potential. Forced to choose between saving her relationship or pursuing her dreams, her life takes an unexpected turn when she moves to a new publisher—shifting everything she thought she knew about herself.

Despite years of writing, workshops, and competitions, Alfred only truly embraced his identity as a writer when he held his first self-published book. Now, with his second, he continues to chase a dream rooted in purpose, growth, and the desire to see his work celebrated.

His journey is a reminder that sometimes, greatness begins with a single belief—and the determination to follow it.

Her debut novel, The Harbinger of a Mockingbird’s Fate, is the result of 2.5 years of dedication and self-belief—entirely self-published, from the writing to the artwork.
