WE HAVE BECOME IGNORANT: TO AFRICAN WRITERS.

What have we learnt from Ngugi Wa Thiong’o literature?

Expectations suggest that African authors must produce African inspired and centred literature. However, most authors are still clinging to the Western narrative, traditions, and cultures that produce Western ideas for African situations and problems. Ngugi was special. He did not look at the west for inspiration, he instead looked around him and wrote about it. Furthermore, his approach to writing was meant for a wider understanding. His work can raise brilliant thinkers.

Why are we not writing like Ngugi did?
Why are we not writing literature based on our life time situations?
Why are we silent about the persistence of colonialism and racism?
Why are we silent on the unresolved injustices that continue to plague our African societies?
WHY?
