Creative Careers South Africa with support from the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture launches the Playwrights in Progress 2025 – Playwriting Incubation Programme.

This virtual programme is your gateway to the world of writing for stage, with mentorship and hands-on learning from industry experts. 😎

💰Stipend: R5000 for successful participants.

South African Actress Michelle Botes (63) passed away early this morning. In her last interview with Bruis a few weeks ago, she opened up about her struggle over the past two-and-a-half years with advanced multiple myeloma, a rare, incurable type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow.
Michelle has lived with her son, Daniel, and his wife, Nolene, in Observatory, Cape Town since her cancer diagnosis in July 2022. She was initially treated with chemotherapy and steroids and later received a stem transplant, but did not want to continue with that treatment. “I didn’t see a chance to feel so terribly bad again and not be myself,” she said.
Doctors gave her two to three months to live in October after her cancer count rose alarmingly. She began undergoing more holistic, less invasive cancer treatment in November but has weakened rapidly over the past two weeks.
Our deepest condolences to her children, Cara and Daniel, family and friends with the passing of Michelle. May they find comfort in knowing that she was at complete peace and was deeply grateful for every pasella day granted to her, especially for the lovely times with her children and their companions over the past five months.
