Nomqhele Ndlovu, the proud owner of Nomqhele Cakes and Events, reached out to Soaring into the Community for support in growing her small business. She needed assistance with designing a professional sticker label for her muffin mix packaging, a simple but meaningful step toward building her brand and expanding her dream.
Nomqhele’s journey began in 2021 when she started working at Bakery Lenz, where she packaged freshly baked goods such as red cakes and brownies. With curiosity and a strong desire to learn, she carefully watched the head baker at work. Her passion soon turned into purpose, and she was inspired and trained to become a baker herself.
Determined to create a better future, Nomqhele started her own small business by selling homemade muffins at the Bree Taxi Rank. Although the journey was not always easy, she remained committed to her goal. In 2023, her business grew enough for her to hire someone to continue selling at the taxi rank while she focused on preparing and managing orders from home.
Today, Nomqhele operates her business from her home in Westdene, where she lives with her husband and their two children. She bakes a variety of delicious treats including chocolate and vanilla muffins, scones, and beautifully made cakes. Her husband plays an important role in the business by assisting with deliveries.
Nomqhele has recently taken another exciting step forward by introducing her own chocolate and vanilla cake mix, packaged in 5kg bags for customers who enjoy baking at home.
Nomqhele’s story is one of perseverance, passion, and determination, a true example of how a small beginning can grow into a meaningful and inspiring business.
