Say, “I forgive myself.”
Then, give yourself a 20-second hug. Science shows that hugging for 20 seconds releases happy hormones in the brain. It might sound strange, but I tried it yesterday and felt better.
The idea of getting happiness from someone else is sweet, but it's not always realistic or sustainable. Everyone is on their own journey and might not be able to give you what you need. They're out here either fighting to survive, searching for love, finding their purpose, or just trying to meet life's deadlines.
So, you need to recognize that you're a garden that needs tending. Put on those gloves, grab the watering can and some fertilizer, and cultivate what your garden needs.
Community will join you when they can, but the journey is yours. Own it and fall in love with all the intricacies it brings your way.
Understand that every uncomfortable, negative experience is actually a gift. The trauma, the childhood stuff, the people stuff—it's all meant to lift you up, make you wiser, and more beautiful.
Will you receive every gift life has to offer from now on? Remember, when He said He would be with you till the end of time, it was done! Didn't His Son say, "It is finished"?
Take heart, dear friend. As a 9-year-old told me this week, “You’re never alone.”
Shalom.
