*Brahma chickens originated from China and India, not America or England* 🇨🇳🇮🇳🇺🇸

*The history:*
1. *Roots*: They trace back to very large, feather-legged chickens from the *Shanghai region of China* and *Brahmaputra River area of India*. That’s where the name “Brahma” comes from.
2. *Brought to the US*: In the *1840s-1850s*, merchants shipped these “Shanghai” or “Chittagong” fowl to America as gifts.
3. *Developed in America*: US breeders in New York and Massachusetts took those huge Asian birds + crossed them with Malay and Cochin blood. They selected for size, calm temperament, and the pea comb.
4. *Recognized*: The American Poultry Association officially named them *"Brahma" in 1852*. They became America’s main meat bird from 1850-1890 before broilers existed.

Color varieties came later*: Light Columbian, Dark, and Buff are all US color varieties developed after the original imports.
