LIMPOPO AUDIENCE TURNS UP — AND GRADE 10D HITS GAUTENG

Imagine hearing Venda on the big screen… in cinemas beyond Limpopo. That’s exactly what is happening.

Because Limpopo audiences showed up and filled the cinemas, Grade 10D is now expanding to Gauteng. This is what happens when communities support their own stories.
Congratulations to Moufe Productions and the entire Grade 10D team.

Thank you, Limpopo.

You showed up. You filled the cinema. You made Opening Night of Grade 10D a SOLD OUT moment at Ster-Kinekor, Mall of the North.

That kind of support does not go unnoticed. It sends a message — that our stories matter, that our filmmakers matter, and that our province is ready to back its own.

If you missed Opening Night, this is your moment.
Grade 10D is still screening at Ster-Kinekor Mall of the North. Go watch it. Take your friends. Take your family. Start the conversations the film is inviting us to have.

The growth of our film sector does not happen by chance. It happens when audiences choose to show up.

Your ticket is not just entry into a cinema.
It is a vote for more Limpopo stories on big screens.

Let’s keep the momentum going.

Tonight we honour those championing the support and growth of the film industry in Limpopo.

At Ster-Kinekor, Mall of the North, our distinguished VIP guests join us for the Grade 10D Opening Night Premiere — not just as attendees, but as advocates for local storytelling and creative excellence.

When leaders, educators, media voices and industry stakeholders show up, they send a clear message: Limpopo stories deserve big screens.
Their presence represents belief — belief in youth dialogue, in representation, and in building a sustainable provincial film industry.

This is more than a screening.

It is a collective step forward.

CONGRADULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!

A huge congratulations to the incredible filmmakers behind Lubunyu!

From all of us at the Made in Limpopo Film Hub, we’re proud to celebrate this powerful milestone with you — being officially selected for a screening at the Jozi Film Festival.

This is a big win, and it speaks to the quality of your storytelling, your hard work, and the strength of the creative talent coming out of Limpopo.

It also needs to be said that shooting a film in historically under-resourced and marginalised provinces is a gruelling ordeal.
From limited funding and infrastructure, to accessing equipment, crew, and distribution opportunities — the road is never easy.
To still push through that reality, create something this strong, and then go on to win awards and represent Limpopo on national and international platforms is highly commendable. You’ve carried the province with dignity, courage, and excellence.

And yet we must acknowledge this truth: Limpopo is still to officially celebrate this film and the outstanding filmmakers on home soil.

The province deserves to experience this thrilling story firsthand — with our communities watching, supporting, and honouring the work in the place where it was born.

We’re looking forward to the moment Lubunyu is brought back home to the people of Limpopo, the way it truly deserves.

Congratulations once again to the full cast and crew — we’re rooting for you all the way!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIMPOPO FILMMAKERS SPEAK OUT: WE DESERVE LEADERSHIP THAT LISTENS

The Limpopo Filmmakers Collective is raising its voice not out of anger, but from a place of deep commitment to our craft, our province, and the creative community that continues to push forward against all odds.
For years, filmmakers in Limpopo have created work with limited support, relying on passion, sacrifice, and resilience. Yet many feel unheard and overlooked in decisions that shape the direction of our sector. These challenges impact more than just our careers they affect our homes, our families, and the dreams we carry.

Why We Are Submitting a Motion of No Confidence
The purpose of this motion is not to attack individuals, but to address a system that is no longer serving the broader creative community.
Our call is simple:
We want leadership that communicates, instead of leaving artists in the dark.
We want leadership that includes filmmakers in decisions affecting our future.

We want leadership that is transparent, fair, accountable, and free of favouritism.
We want a sector where opportunities reach all creatives emerging and established not just a selected few.

This motion is a step toward rebuilding trust and reshaping how the Limpopo film sector operates. It is a push for systems that uplift the entire industry, not just pockets of it. This is not division it is responsibility. It is hope.
Submission Details:
🗓 Monday, 1 December 2025

We are filmmakers, students, parents, breadwinners, dreamers.
We carry the stories of Limpopo, and today, we are choosing to rewrite our own story one built on fairness, transparency, and a future where every creator feels seen and supported.
This moment is bigger than any individual.
We are standing together because Limpopo deserves better.
And together, we will build it.

It’s been a few weeks since the Sonti screening- and we are still reeling with memories.

The panel opened up sharp insights into how audiences consume stories — from local viewers rooted in lived realities to international audiences drawn to structure and form.

Preferences clashed, distinctions surfaced, and the energy carried into a highly charged Q&A with the filmmaker, where bold questions met bold reflections.

It’s safe to say it was a great learning and sharing experience for all.

Thanks to all the filmmakers who attended and enjoyed this momentous evening with us!

A beautiful start to the night as filmmakers and storytellers arrived, mingled, and reconnected ahead of the SONTI screening.

The room was filled with energy, laughter, and the excitement of celebrating a Limpopo story on the big screen.

Nights like these remind us why we create spaces for local filmmakers — to share, to connect, and to dream together.
