1. Exercise your creativity like a muscle.
Actively trying to think creatively in problem solving and design thinking helps…A LOT!!! Training your brain to work in a specific way gets your brain hardwired into that mode. The more you train the more you gain!
2. Change up your surroundings -- even minimally.
This is a big one for us. Changing your environment or even location can help get those creative ideas popping. Try sitting in a different room, change your desk around or even move your seating position to a different part of the office. Our tip…..get some fresh air.
3. implement and practice what you learn
Broadening your knowledge base and familiarizing yourself with new topics provides insights like you cant believe. New ideas come from the weirdest places. Be open minded and actively think how you can apply what you have read to real world problems.
4. Pay attention to -- and record -- new ideas that come to you.

Ever had a great idea that just disappeared because you didn’t act on it? Creativity plays by its own rules and comes at the weirdest moments. This is because you subconscious is continually working. Keep a notepad or phone close and record your thoughts.
5. Challenge yourself in new ways
Think big, start big. Broaden your thinking spectrum and challenge yourself to come up with solutions to the most outrageous problems in your industry. Having an overall view of a huge issue could help you narrow down a solution to an existing problem .

Take a simple example of an earless coffee mug, impractical and kind of against the grain.
