Honoured to have received two awards at the 2024 Winemag.co.za Label Design Competition especially for my first time entering!
Celine Da Camara Designs (Pty) Ltd was awarded a BRONZE for the Yellow Submarine - Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 label, created for Tamasa Wines, in the "single wine under R80" category. Drawing inspiration from The Beatles' iconic songs, the design merges vibrant colors and bold contrasts with a minimalist approach, blending nostalgia and modernity. Abstract shapes invite personal interpretation, making the label a visual and conversational centerpiece, echoing the timeless spirit of the music.
I was also awarded a SILVER for the Spijker, Bessie & Borls series, designed for Spijker & Bessie Wyne, founded by the talented winemaker & viticulturist, Annelie Viljoen. This playful label series celebrates neighbourly love, humour, and the winemaking legacy of Stellenbosch. Inspired by wine legend Duimpie Bayly's favourite bull, Spiker, and Bessie, an Angus cow, the design brings Afrikaans culture to life with a lighthearted twist, free from pretentiousness. Börls, the calf, symbolizes their "romance." These unique labels are not traditional wine label designs and names that are easy to pronounce, free from the pretentiousness that often surrounds wine and can sometimes intimidate buyers, with a playful nod to Afrikaans culture.
