Kapalala Market Fire Claims Life, Destroys Goods for Over 1,200 Traders

Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo says investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire at the old Kapalala Market in Ndola, warning that those responsible will face severe consequences.

Mr. Matambo expressed the government’s sadness over the loss suffered by marketeers, whose merchandise was destroyed in the inferno that swept through their stands in the early hours of Sunday.

According to ZANIS, Mr. Matambo made the remarks during a visit to the site, describing the incident as retrogressive and calling for it to be condemned.

He assured marketeers that the government is actively working to find a tangible solution and address the incident.

Mr. Matambo noted that Kapalala Market has been ravaged by fires multiple times—in 2017, 2022, and now again—with the latest blaze resulting in significant losses for over 1,200 marketeers.

He also expressed condolences for the loss of one life, urging the bereaved family to seek solace from God.

The Minister added that the Office of the Vice President has been engaged through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to explore support options for the affected traders.

Francis Kafula, a trader from Kasama District in Northern Province, reported losing goods worth K100,000 in the fire and appealed to the government to investigate the matter urgently and bring the culprits to book.

A KENYAN LADY LEFT IN SHOCK AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF MORE THAN 150, 000 SHILLINGS

A Kenyan lady has been left in shock after discovering more than 150,000 shillings in old Kshs 1,000 notes hidden inside her late mother’s wardrobe.

Her mother passed away 14 years ago, and the family says they had always avoided entering her bedroom. Recently, when they finally gathered the courage to open it, they came across the bundle of money neatly kept in an old handbag.

Unfortunately, these are the old Kenyan notes that were phased out years ago meaning they can no longer be used in shops, exchanged at the bank, or even converted into new notes. To her, what looked like a life-changing fortune is now just worthless paper.
She is now wondering what to do next, and whether there is any hope of getting value from it
