๐ต How to make the MOST out of BORROWING.
Borrowing maybe be the fastest ROUTE TO WEALTH OR RUIN.
While there are foolish, emotional, illogical, thoughtless reasons for general borrowing, there are wise, logical, thoughtful, advantageous reasons for genuine borrowing. We need wisdom if our borrowing is to be beneficial (Proverbs 4:5-7; James 1:5; Ephesians 5:15-17; Matthew 10:16; Ecclesiastes 9:16-18; 7:19).
1. Ownership of cost-saving, labour-saving and time-saving devices or machinery (Ecclesiastes 10:10; Ephesians 5:15-17; Colossians 4:5).
Whatever can save us (on the long run) cost, labour and time is good investment. The money, time and labour saved can be put to better uses of eternal value. A car, bicycle, blender, washing machine and dryer, word processor etc. can fall into this category.
2. In order to take advantage of Godโs miraculous provision (2 Kings 4:1-7). The prophetโs widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7 was so poor that she had to borrow vessels not a few from her neighbours to take advantage of Godโs miraculous provision.
3. Borrowing for present needful expansion (2 Kings 6:1-7)
The student-prophet borrowed an axe to use in helping to cut down wood to be used in expanding their theological college (2 Kings 6:1-7). A worker could borrow for a mental and intellectual expansion through a new study course or a businessman could borrow to expand his business through the purchase of a new piece of machinery or the employment of more staff to cope with increased business activity.
4. Borrowing for investment (Luke 5:4-11; Matthew 14:28,29; 13:3-8,23).
There may be major investment opportunities of which we may not be able to afford the large upfront
costs.
