UPND ENDORSES NELLY MUTTI FOR SECOND TERM AS SPEAKER

The UPND has endorsed Nelly Mutti to retain her position as Speaker of the National Assembly for a second term.

UPND Deputy Secretary General Gertrude Imenda praised Ms Mutti for her performance and experience during her first term.

Meanwhile, Dag Hammarskjöld MP Ezra Tembo said his party would announce its position once the date for the official opening of Parliament is announced.

MPs will elect the Speaker and the two Deputy Speakers at the start of the new Parliament.

Many people continue to praise Ms Maggie Sapatu for walking from Mwinilunga to Lusaka to attend President Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration.

However, Dr Fred M’membe has questioned the claim. He says walking more than 800 km would normally take about 18–25 days, suggesting that Ms Sapatu may have travelled by car for part of the journey.

He also questioned whether the village chickens she carried as a gift for the President would have survived the long journey.
