URGENT APPEAL FOR INTERVENTION ON RISING CASES OF R**E TARGETING STUDENTS OF LEVY MWANAWASA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY IN PHI AREA
Your Excellency Dr Hakainde Hichilema President of Zambia, your government is known and has shown that it's a listening government.
It is for this reason that i write to you as a concerned citizen and on behalf of students, parents, and residents of the PHI area in Lusaka, regarding the escalating cases of sexual assault and r**e targeting students of Levy Mwanawasa Medical University.
In recent weeks, female students in particular have reported an alarming increase in attacks just yesterday six cases where reported,these incidents have caused deep fear, trauma, and disruption to academic life. Many students now live in constant anxiety, and some have been forced to suspend their studies.
We acknowledge and appreciate the work of the Zambia Police Service and local authorities. However, the frequency and severity of these attacks indicate that current measures are insufficient. The PHI area has limited street lighting, minimal police patrols at night, and many students reside in boarding houses far from campus without secure transport options.
We therefore respectfully appeal for your direct intervention through the following*
- Increased security presence: Deploy more police patrols and position police men around PHI.
- Quick response by police on duty:vehicle available for emergency response with fuel.
- Safe transport: Engage the Ministry of Transport and LMMU management to facilitate secure, subsidized student transport during high-risk hours.
A few to mention as you look for a permanent solution like building of *hostels* etc.
