The Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ) today hosted a delegation from the United States Embassy Public Affairs Team during a courtesy call at the MSCZ Secretariat.
Discussions centred on the role and functions of MSCZ, its collaboration with key stakeholders, and its continued engagement with the media sector in promoting professionalism and media self-regulation in Zambia.

The Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ) was honoured to join the European Union in Zambia in celebrating Europe Day. The event highlighted the strong partnership between Zambia and the EU, promoting values of democracy, media freedom, human rights, and cooperation.

PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MSCZ WELCOMES MR. DANIEL SIKAZWE TO THE MEDIA ETHICS COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE

Lusaka, May 8 - The Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Sikazwe to the Media Ethics Complaints Committee (MECC) as a Member.

Mr. Sikazwe, who previously served as Chairperson of Media Institute of Southern Africa Zambia, brings a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge in media practice, ethics, and governance.

His appointment is expected to further strengthen the work of the Committee in promoting professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards within the media industry in Zambia.

Mr. Sikazwe replaces Mr Fanwell Chembo on the committee who has since been apointed Head of the Secretariat and Ombudsman.

The Media Ethics and Complaints Committee is chaired by Samson Mujuda, a legal practitioner, Journalist and former Diplomat and also comprises:
• Sis Kayula Lesa, a human rights activist;
• Brenda Nyambe, a lawyer; and Journalist.
• Kamufinsa Manchishi, a lecturer at Mulungushi University.

MSCZ is confident that Mr. Sikazwe’s experience and contribution to the media sector will add great value to the Committee’s mandate of handling media-related complaints fairly, independently, and professionally.

The Council warmly welcomes Mr. Sikazwe to MECC and wishes him success in his new role.

The Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia today joined a stakeholder engagement at Mika Lodge, convened by MISA Zambia.

Journalists and key partners came together to identify and agree on categories of violations affecting media practitioners.

Through sharing real experiences from the field, participants helped shape a more accurate picture of the challenges journalists face.

The discussion also led to proposals and agreement on additional violation categories that better reflect today’s media realities in Zambia.

A meaningful step forward in strengthening media self-regulation and building a safer, more accountable media environment.

Day 2 of the AMCC kicked off with insightful discussions on the distinction between media self-regulation and journalism practice.

Participants also explored funding models for Media Councils highlighting Kenya’s state-funded approach versus South Africa’s media-funded system and shared perspectives on different codes of ethics across countries.

A productive exchange on strengthening ethical journalism and sustainable self-regulation in Africa.
