The deal comes as Zimbabwe continues to grapple with energy shortages and heavy reliance on imported petroleum products, which have left the economy vulnerable to global price fluctuations and supply disruptions.

The Government of Zimbabwe has signed a Petroleum Production Sharing Agreement (PPSA) with GEO Associates for petroleum exploration and potential production under Special Grant 4571 in the Cabora Bassa Basin, a move authorities say could strengthen the country’s long-term energy security and reduc...

The Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG) has raised alarm over what it describes as a worsening humanitarian and governance crisis linked to operations by the Dinson Iron and Steel Company, accusing authorities of failing to adequately protect vulnerable communities affected by the project.

Cabinet has approved the Environmental Management Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to strengthen Zimbabwe’s environmental legal framework and give effect to constitutional environmental rights.

It proposes amendments to the Environmental Management Act [Chapter 20:27], including the incorporation of emerging environmental principles and the strengthening of environmental governance structures.

Cabinet says the Bill is aimed at empowering and strengthening the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) to improve its ability to protect and preserve the environment.

The reforms are expected to enhance enforcement capacity and align national legislation with constitutional provisions and evolving environmental standards.
