Botswana Delegation Tours Zimbabwe’s Sustainable Waste Management Facility

MASVINGO – Zimbabwe’s waste management sector is attracting growing regional interest following a high-level visit by a Botswana delegation to a sustainable waste management facility led by Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya, CEO and Executive Chairman and Special Advisor to the President of Zimbabwe on Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability.

The delegation was led by Botswana’s Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Ketlhalefile F.C. Motshegwa, accompanied by Botswana’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Sarah S. Molosiwa, and Mayor of Francistown, Hon. Gaone Majere.

The visit showcased Zimbabwe’s integrated waste management model while strengthening regional cooperation and knowledge exchange for cleaner, sustainable communities.

Youth Are 60% of the Population and Must Be Empowered

BIKITA – ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs in the Politburo and Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Hon. John Paradza, has challenged young people in Masvingo Province to reject drug and substance abuse and embrace opportunities that can improve their livelihoods and drive national development.

Speaking as Guest of Honour at the ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Inter-District Meeting in Bikita, Hon. Paradza said Government was placing youth empowerment high on its development agenda, highlighting the demographic strength of young people.

“The President is focusing much on empowering the youth because you are 60 percent of the population,” Hon. Paradza said, adding that more avenues would be opened for young people to participate in economic activities.

He said youths would be capacitated to create wealth and urged them to remain united while pursuing opportunities available through Government programmes.

Hon. Paradza also highlighted the Munhumutapa Housing Programme, saying young people were set to benefit from the allocation of residential stands through local authorities in line with Government policy.

He assured the youths that concerns raised during the meeting would be taken forward for consideration, while acknowledging their contributions and resolutions.

The Deputy Minister strongly condemned drug and substance abuse, urging youths to redirect their energy towards productive ventures and community development.

“Let’s not be involved in drugs and substance abuse. Let’s focus much on development. Let’s stop drugs in all its forms,” he said.

He also invited Masvingo youths to attend Munhumutapa Day on September 15, 2026, in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central Province.

Hon. Paradza said the inter-district meetings, held in line with the ZANU PF Party Constitution, would rotate across districts to strengthen mobilisation, engagement and feedback between leadership and grassroots structures.

Masvingo Scores Big as Sports Tourism Carnival Sets New Tourism Path

MASVINGO — Masvingo has strengthened its position as an emerging sports tourism destination following the successful inaugural September Sports Tourism Carnival, which culminated in an awards ceremony at Mucheke Stadium today.

The carnival brought together tertiary institutions, national and community teams competing in football, netball, cricket, tennis, basketball, volleyball, boxing, marathon, pool, golf and rugby.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi said hosting major events outside metropolitan centres could spread tourism activity, promote provincial heritage and create opportunities for local businesses.

Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Lt Gen (Rtd) Hon Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe said sport had evolved beyond competition into an industry capable of driving tourism and economic development.

The carnival is set to become an annual fixture, linking sport, heritage and leisure ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe Tourism Expo, scheduled for September 9–12 in Masvingo.

BIKITA — Calls for greater youth empowerment, discipline and economic opportunities are taking centre stage as the ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Inter-District Meeting gets underway in Bikita today.

Masvingo Provincial Youth League Chairman Cde Delight Tichaona Mandebvu has commended youths for maintaining discipline and order, saying the gathering provides an important platform to reaffirm their commitment to Party and Government programmes.

Cde Mandebvu also highlighted Masvingo’s role in advancing the 2030 agenda, while applauding ongoing empowerment initiatives targeting young people.

He called for resources and empowerment programmes to reach grassroots youths, raising concerns over the performance of EmpowerBank and urging stronger protection of youth-focused initiatives.

The provincial youth leadership is also calling for the speedy allocation of youth residential stands and implementation of affordable housing programmes.

Cde Mandebvu further urged local companies to employ more youths and strengthen Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

The meeting continues with delegates from across Masvingo districts focusing on mobilisation, empowerment, unity and preparations for upcoming Party programmes.

BIKITA — The ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Inter-District Meeting is currently underway in Bikita, with hundreds of party members and invited affiliates gathered for the ongoing engagement.

The meeting has been headlined by the arrival of Hon John Paradza, Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs and Deputy Minister, who is the Guest of Honour. Affectionately known as “Boss Para,” Hon. Paradza arrived accompanied by National Secretary for Finance Cde Zonde, Central Committee member Cde M. Nyerere, Deputy Secretary for Finance in the National Youth League Kelvin Chauke, and Masvingo Provincial Youth Chairman Cde Delight Tichaona Mandebvu.

The gathering is also being attended by Masvingo Provincial Chairman Hon Sen Robson Mavhenyengwa, Members of Parliament and other party leaders.

The meeting continues to provide a platform for engagement, mobilisation and coordination among party structures and affiliates in Masvingo Province.

Masvingo Roars to Life as Tourism Gastronomy Carnival Sets Stage for Sanganai

MASVINGO – The Ancient City of Masvingo came alive today as the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry launched the 19th Tourism Gastronomy Carnival, setting the tone for the forthcoming Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.

Speaking at the event, Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Munyanyiwa said the carnival provides a vibrant platform for showcasing Zimbabwe’s culinary heritage, culture and creative talent.

“This event comprises gastronomy, entertainment and the promotion of culture. It is designed to showcase Zimbabwe’s rich culinary heritage, talent and identity to both local and international visitors,” Dr Munyanyiwa said.

Officially welcoming delegates, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo, Hon Engineer Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira, said the province was proud to host the event in the home of the Great Zimbabwe Monuments.

He described gastronomy as more than entertainment, saying it creates opportunities for cultural exchange, business linkages and economic transformation.

“Gastronomy is a platform to exchange our cultures and knowledge as we unlock the vast potential here in Masvingo,” said Hon Chadzamira.

He expressed gratitude to President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for advancing the Devolution Agenda, which he said was opening opportunities for communities.

Featuring traditional cuisine, music, dance and exhibitions, the carnival is expected to boost tourism and investment ahead of Sanganai/Hlanganani.

The 19th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani International Tourism Expo and Carnival March is taking centre stage in Masvingo’s CBD.

Team Vee Mhofu, Diana Samukange and the Andy Muridzo Group, in collaboration with mbira musicians and drumming groups in Masvingo, are warming up for the 19th edition of the Sanganai-Hlanganani International Tourism Expo Carnival.

The carnival is set to be held at Masvingo Caravan Park and is expected to be graced by the Minister of Tourism, Hon Barbara Rwodzi, and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo, Hon Engineer Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira.
