Did you receive an intervention during pregnancy (induction, sweep, or others) that lead you down an unfortunate path of more and more invasive procedures? If you're comfortable, share your experience with me in the comments.

On the topic of interventions, I love how Aisha Al Hajjar explains it in her book AMANI BIRTH (a MUST READ for all pregnant mothers):

"I am the first to acknowledge the skill and efforts of the medical establishment at rescuing mothers and babies in trouble. I'm very grateful for medical interventions when they are truly needed. In most cases, true need for interventions is related to underlying medical conditions or lack of preparation on the part of the mother.

But for the vast majority of healthy, young women, interventions cause more harm than good. Especially when they interfere with the Natural process and lead to a domino effect of more and more invasive measures."

Why are we empowering each other, growing ourselves as girls, women and mothers, if not to be bold and firm when we see injustice? I may be biased, but isn't it true that when we change the way we raise our children, we change the way the world will be twenty years later?

If we want our children to be unafraid in the face of those who want to take advantage of them, we need to ask ourselves "Am I the kind of mother who will do what is right or who will bend any rule in order to please everybody?"

We have a short life in the dunya, and the bigger purpose behind why I am an advocate for positive birth and positive postpartum is because when we are at peace as mothers, we truly can change the world, right from inside our homes 💗

It's easy to get lost in the routine of homemaking, but as Rasoolullah صل الله عليه وسلم taught us, we are like one body ... when one part of the body hurts, the whole body aches.

Praying for every hurting people in this time of great resi s t ance 🍉

Prenatal exercises, childbirth workshops, couples hypnobirthing classes, having the help of a doula, choosing a midwife-led hospital ... all of these can be unfamiliar for you and your close loved ones.

It is a sensitive issue trying to navigate the 10x types of opinions you hear on every little topic when it comes to your pregnancy and baby.

For example, as a relatively low-risk pregnant mother, I was super active in preparation for labour. I would do yoga-type stretches, squats, stairs, walks, and more to get my legs and pelvis strong and ready for labour.

But in a culture (desi, South Indian) where pregnancy is often seen as a disease and many moms remain in "bed rest" even though her pregnancy is not high risk, it was a challenge trying to keep up with my routine.

It felt I was in a battleground trying to deflect opinions, convince people in my life of the benefits of preparing for labour, while also staying in a calm and positive mindset.

One lesson I learned was I am the only one who will be left to pick up the pieces after my birth. So it is up to me to choose who to listen to and who to politely avoid.

As we embark on motherhood, life will be full of moments where we can prove our point or just quietly continue doing what we know is best for our family.

Hope this helped and if you have any questions mama, reach out to me 💗

"When the baby is crying, you don't say to a two-day old baby "Stop crying! You think you're suffering? What about the starving children in India?"

No. When a baby cries, we go, "Awww."

And what are we saying when we say "aww"? We're saying, "Kid, I get that you're having a hard time right now, and I share that with you. But you know what? It's gonna be okay."

That's what ATTUNEMENT is. What I'm saying is, when children don't get attuned with, that also hurts them. And they get the sense of not being understood. There's something wrong with them."

“When we look to the Qur’an for any reference to labor and birth we find the story of Maryam’s (Alayhassalam) birth of Isa/Jesus. Some things to note from her account:

• She found a quiet place of seclusion, away from the peering observational eyes of strangers.
• Allah sent to her a stream to cool her eye and quench her thirst.
• She shook the date tree, which indicates her upright, Active position with freedom of movement.
• She ate dates for energy as she labored. “

Growing up as the eldest daughter in an Indian household, there were so many unhelpful misconceptions and grudges that I came into motherhood with. I found them to make things worse, repeatedly coming in the way of me bonding with my baby.

However, the second time around, my priority became to heal myself before my second baby arrived. And although our healing journey never ends until we meet Allah, I was able to work through the biggest of my childhood shadows. Alhamdulillah, and I am now reaping the benefits because I’m sure a strong connection to my inner self was the ONLY reason I was able to go through labour as quickly as I did. Alhamdulillah.
