Major Changes to UAE Credit Card Airport Lounge Access: What Cardholders Need to Know in 2025.

🧳 *Mastercard‑Branded Cards (e.g., Emirates NBD, ADCB, Sharjah Islamic Bank, FAB..etc)*

✅ Mandatory registration via Mastercard Travel Pass app
All Mastercard holders must enroll in or re-enroll for the app from 1 May 2025.

📅 New annual cap on lounge visits

Platinum: 4 visits per calendar year
World: 8 visits per calendar year
World Elite: 14 visits per calendar year
(For 2025 only, the count runs from 1 May to 31 Dec.)

💳 Minimum spend requirement
To qualify for lounge access, you must make at least USD 1 in an international transaction in the 3 months prior. Otherwise, lounge entry will cost approximately USD 32.

🎟️ Flight Delay Pass (Titanium only)
Master Titanium cards lose lounge access but gain a Flight Delay Pass, granting lounge entry if a registered flight is delayed.

From 23 May 2025, Visa lounge access must be activated through the app—you can’t use the physical card.

Signature: Up to 10 visits/year
Infinite: Unlimited visits, subject to qualifying spend

💵 Spend requirement
Users must meet a pre-visit spending threshold (e.g., within 35 days prior). Exact amounts depend on bank and visa tier.

👨‍👧 Guest policy
Complimentary access usually extended to the principal and supplementary cardholders; additional guests are charged (typically USD 32).

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has recently introduced stricter regulations regarding credit cards to protect both consumers and the banking sector from rising debt risks. These rules focus on income eligibility, debt burden, transparency of fees, and responsible lending practices. Here’s a breakdown of the key updates and their meaning:

🔴 1. Minimum Income Requirement Raised
✅ New Rule:
To qualify for a credit card, applicants must now show a minimum annual income of AED 60,000 or AED 5,000 per month. (previously cards often issued on request, even to low earners)

🔴 2. Debt Burden Ratio (DBR) Enforcement Strengthened
✅ New Rule:
Total monthly loan and credit card payments cannot exceed 50% of your gross salary (DBR cap). This includes:
Personal loans
Car loans
Credit card minimum payments

🔴 3. Fee Transparency Regulations
✅ New Rule:
Banks must seek Central Bank approval before introducing or increasing fees on credit cards. This covers:
Annual fees
Over-limit fees
Foreign transaction fees
Late payment charges

🔴 4. Enhanced Disclosure Obligations for Banks
Banks must clearly explain:
Interest rates (especially for carried balances)
How fees are calculated
Minimum payment consequences (i.e., how long you stay in debt if you pay the minimum)
All terms must now be provided in both English and Arabic.

Banks must:
Conduct proper affordability assessments (no blind pre-approvals)
Verify income through official salary certificates or bank statements
Avoid cross-selling unless clearly beneficial to the customer

Central Bank's Goal:
